GPT-5: Not the AGI Messiah, but still pretty impressive
... Want to read more write-ups like this? Subscribe to the Product Hunt weekly newsletter for a new one every Sunday OpenAI just dropped GPT-5 , and the hype train roared straight into AGI territory. In a live-streamed event that felt ripped from an Apple keynote, Sam Altman strode onstage, threw real-time coding challenges and puzzles at GPT-5 under spotlights, and even took audience Q&A. This feels like talking to a PhD-level expert ... ... quipped, as the hype

A WordPress weather plugin that's actually hyper-local
... weather widget shows the forecast for the nearest major city instead of your actual location? I certainly did. That s why I built Global Weather Pro, a new WordPress plugin designed to solve that exact problem. It delivers true hyper-local weather forecasts by using the precise GPS coordinates of an address, not just the closest city center. My goal was to create a weather tool that is not only powerful but also incredibly easy ... ... communications through our own dedicated service, which means you get reliable data without needing to sign up for, manage, or pay for your own API keys. Here are a few things that make Global Weather Pro special: True Hyper

Is building an audience now more important than building the product?
... raising faster, getting more beta testers, and recruiting easier, even when their product is half-baked. But I think there s a danger: sometimes I see the community grows faster than the product matures, and you end up with hype that s impossible to live up to. So my question is, if you had to choose: Would you focus on building an audience first or the product first? Or is the only real answer both? Comment from Vincenzo Manto(@vincenzo ... ... product doesn t deliver, that trust fades fast. We can see it in many projects... Comment from Sunny_K_S(@sunny_k_s): An audience gets you attention, but the product keeps it. If you build hype

Hailey Quach - I Revolted Against “Vibe Coding” — Until I Realized I’d Been Doing It All Along
... tongue-in-cheek). After my initial revolt, though, I took a step back. Was I letting the silly name ( vibe coding does sound absurd, let s be honest) blind me to the underlying reality? Perhaps yes. Strip away the hype and the trolling, and what do we have? We have a powerful new way to create software, one that shifts a developer s role from writing every line by hand to steering an AI that generates code ( en.wikipedia.org .) The practice ... ... just a higher-level kind. So I changed my mindset. I stopped worrying that vibe coding was going to turn me into a code zombie and started thinking about how I could use it intelligently. The term might be hypey

Everyone’s building with AI but is anyone actually using it daily?
... than a core habit? Even better: Have you seen a product where the AI feels like it belongs like it s genuinely useful and not just a checkbox? Curious what s really sticking and what s just surface-level hype. Comment from Sandy Suh(@sand1929): Agree with @manu_goel2 . AIs that are really baked into essential business workflows can create a lot of value. A lot of builders on this platform know how much AI can help with coding tasks ... ... When I started, I thought the tech would all be available and I have to just get it all to work together. But it was a big big surprise when I found that almost all of it was hype

What if Product Hunt Isn’t the Launch?
... been lied to. Somewhere along the way, launching started to mean one thing: Pick a date Hype it up Ship on Product Hunt Hope for #1 of the Day But here s the question nobody asks: What comes before that? Because for most solo builders, this is the real launch: 3 retweets 0 feedback Silent DMs Empty traffic spikes You don t need dopamine. You need data. That s why I built IndieCru.sh : A space to launch before you launch ... ... where you get good before the spotlight hits. And it works. 160+ apps pre-launched 1000s of feedback messages $500 MRR and counting Multiple apps successfully launched after testing on IndieCru.sh One founder told me: I didn t need hype

I almost skipped building desktop apps... until I realized this
... Most of the hype lately is around AI, web tools, and mobile-first everything. But I keep noticing a growing number of small, focused desktop apps especially for productivity, dev tools and utilities. Maybe it's just the niche I'm in, but people seem more open to native tools again. Performance, offline access, cleaner UX, better keyboard support stuff that's still hard to replicate in a browser. I ve been building one myself recently, and honestly ... ... experience is like these days. I have no experience with desktop, but web-based frameworks like React always seemed to have a lower barrier to entry to me, especially since you don't have to worry about accommodating Mac vs

Not everything needs AI
... problem should be solved by AI. Some things, like resume reviews and career guidance, still deserve the human touch. Real feedback, from real people. Would love to hear your thoughts: Are we overusing AI just for the sake of hype? Have you come across products that felt forced because of their AI features? Do you predict people will actually watch AI-generated films?
... Here's an idea we are thinking about: Netflix for AI generated fims, pretty self explanatory Problem This week, Google unveiled Veo 3, its latest AI video model capable of generating hyper-realistic videos from text prompts. The line between AI-generated and human-made content is blurring rapidly. Yet, despite the surge in AI video tools like Runway, Pika Labs, and Sora, there's no centralized platform to discover, watch, and rate AI-generated films. Audiences are left sifting ... ... Niche communities: Fans of specific genres looking for fresh, AI-generated content. Business Models The platform runs on a subscription model, but early on, each AI-generated film or series is ticketed individually - giving creators the ability to build hype

Stop launching solo. It’s not brave, It’s dumb
... many indie makers launch like this: alone. no hype. no crew. no plan. just vibes. They think it s noble. if it s good, people will notice. But here s the problem: No one notices anything unless you make them look. What actually works? you don t need thousands of followers. you need 10 people who care. people who will: leave a comment share your link join the convo vouch for you in public your launch crew ... ... itself but the truth is, no one sees anything unless you help them look. As someone who recently launched without much of a plan, this post hit hard. Marketing, building a launch crew, preparing assets it s not about hype

AI makes it easier to simulate connection, can tech deepen human relationships instead?
... honest: AI is getting eerily good at sounding human. It can craft hyper-personalized content and emails, and handle entire conversations. It s also made sales outreach noisier and eroded trust in once-reliable channels like email, chat, and even voice and crazy enough, video. But it s so seductive and fast.
