Why do you have to sign in to use a terminal app? Really wanted to try this, but I think I'll pass. Reply: (seems it's not supported to reply to replies, so adding it here) I'm specifically referring to trying the app out. Long before I want to share preferences or do anything involving other people, my first need as a user is to try this out without sharing my identity or installing spyware. Earn people's trust first, THEN most will happily share data or money or both if they have a real need that the product solves.

Hi Chris, we appreciate your feedback. We are requiring sign in because it enables syncing settings across machines, command sharing with teammates, and command generation using OpenAI Codex. We understand folks want to see value before signing up. We're having conversations internally about this concern and will keep the community posted.

I've been using Warp for a couple months now and it has completely changed my development flow (for the better!). I am a heavy terminal user, most of my development flow lives in the terminal. I was also a heavy TMUX user, but with Warp I've basically replaced my TMUX flow with Warp's default functionality. It's easy to use, it looks great, and it makes finding new functionality extremely easy. The customer support is also great, I had some questions about upcoming features and they were on top of keeping me up to date which I really appreciate.

I love this product. Very, very, fast when I didn’t realize how slow iTerm could be. The block approach is outstanding and enables you to copy/paste intelligently for documentation, for notes to yourself etc. If you approach this product like it’s just another “terminal app”, you are mistaken.

As someone who never put time into customizing their shell and terminal, Warp is a godsend. It gives me a much better terminal experience without any work on my end! On top of that, blocks are a great platform innovation that I can imagine the team adding all sorts of features to. Can't wait to see where the product goes from here!

why do I need an account to use a terminal app? just let me try before I give you my info. EDIT: > One is that we think there are features that require login in order to create a better user experience. The other is to improve our product during beta. none of those 2 reasons need to force you to have an account, you can leave it open and let people share feedback via email or in a form somewhere else? I see your thinking, but from a user perspective it seems just a marketing tool. "thanks for trying this product, now we got your details"

Warp

Login serves two functions now. One is that we think there are features that require login in order to create a better user experience. The other is to improve our product during beta. 1. We believe that the terminal is more powerful when you can share commands with teammates, generate commands using Open AI Codex, or run shared wikis directly in the terminal. These are not possible if users do not have an account with us. We've already begun building team features and we want to be able to ship them to our users without friction. 2. For our public beta, we do send telemetry and we do associate it with the logged in user because it makes it much easier to reach out and get feedback when something goes wrong. But we only track metadata, never console output. For an exhaustive list of events that we track, see here: https://docs.warp.dev/getting-st.... If this is uncomfortable to you, please wait for Warp to enter General Availability. At that point our plan is to make telemetry opt-in and anonymous.
