Hi everyone, I’m Ron and I’m the Founding PM of Jira Work Management at Atlassian. We’re thrilled today to be announcing a new home for business teams on Jira. Jira Work Management enables teams like marketing, HR, finance, design, and more to connect with their technical counterparts and work together seamlessly. Why did we build this product? Well, we as the founding team feel very passionate about this after talking to so many customers. We heard you saying that while your Engineering teams are already on Jira today, you’d like get all your teams on Jira so that all teams can work closer together. We also heard you tell us that in order to do this, Jira has to be become more approachable and answer ways of working that suit business teams and not just software teams. Over the past months, our team worked really hard to bring to you an entirely new Jira experience. Our own teams in marketing, finance, HR, operations, legal and many more teams have been using our product, contributing feedback on a daily basis, and are now really happy customers, and we couldn’t be more proud of that. So what’s new? There are five new ways to get work from “to-do” to “done” in Jira Work Management. All built with business teams in mind: List - extends the intuitive experience of a spreadsheet to Jira, incorporating in-line editing for blazing-fast performance and results. It’s a beautiful and effective new way to manage work at any scale, from individual workloads to large cross-company projects. Calendar - adds the context of time to your work in a way that’s clearly visible and universally understood. Now, companies can view deadlines and update work in an easy-to-comprehend format for quicker, more efficient planning. Timeline - is a fine-tuning of the traditional Gantt chart, designed to highlight connections and dependencies across workstreams. We’ve also added data, such as assignee and status, to the bars themselves so teams can gather the full picture of their projects instantly. Board - displays work tasks in the logical progression of the workflow they belong to, giving you a flexible way of viewing, managing, and reporting on work in progress. Teams can design custom workflows and watch work move from “To do” to “Done”. Forms - make coordinating projects with cross-team requirements a breeze. Create drag-and-drop forms within seconds to collect requests and consolidate work related to projects, reducing friction and team disconnects. We’d love to hear your feedback and please try it out entirely FREE through the link above. Thanks! Ron, Chase, Jerome, James and the team!

Is Jira Work Management the same as Jira Software? Like can an existing software team use Jira Software and have the business team use Jira Work Management?

@naseem_raad yes! That's exactly the goal. Plus, those teams can share items, workflows, issue types, etc and remain in different experiences while still being on the same platform

They are both separate subscriptions correct? Just because I have Jira Software, does not mean I have Jira Work Management?

@naseem_raad if you have Jira Software, you can currently create Business projects that give you the value of Jira Work Management as well

Review Jira?

Jira is highly praised for its robust project management capabilities, particularly for agile teams. It excels in task tracking, sprint planning, and workflow customization, making it indispensable for software development. Many makers, including those from Spiky and Surfsite AI, highlight its integration with other tools like Trello and Airtable. While some users find it complex, its comprehensive features and flexibility make it a preferred choice for managing complex projects.

Jira is one of those tools you kinda love and hate at the same time — and I mean that in the best possible way. It does what it promises: keeps issues tracked, workflows organized, and the team (mostly) in sync. Once it's set up right, it's solid. Powerful, flexible, and surprisingly good for managing even weird non-dev tasks if you customize it enough. But — and here’s the “not-quite-5-stars” part — the UI still feels clunky at times. Too many clicks to do simple things. The performance can lag when you’ve got tons of tickets or complex filters. And don’t get me started on trying to onboard new team members without them staring at the screen like it's a spaceship dashboard. That said, when it works (which is most of the time), it really works. The automation rules, integration options, custom fields, all of it makes sense once you’re deep in the ecosystem. So yeah — 4/5. Not perfect, but still the best in its category. Just be ready to wrestle with it a bit before it bends to your will.
