Synthesys X is a chrome extension that analyzes objects and patterns in any picture and generates new images based on their similarity and relevance to those objects/patterns found within the original image.
Hello, Product Hunt community!
Everything starts with inspiration!
We're excited to announce the launch of Synthesys X, a Chrome extension that analyzes objects and patterns in any picture you come across and generate new images based on their similarity and relevance to those objects/patterns found within the original image.
With Synthesys X, you can turn any image you find online into your own unique creation.
Synthesys X allows you to easily create versions of any image you find online in your browser. No need to log in to any additional apps or websites. The original image is neither touched nor reproduced.
And the best part? You’ll own all copyrights to your finished creation, so you can confidently share it.
We can't wait for you to try out Synthesys X and see the amazing things you can create with it.
We look forward to your feedback!
Have you tested this in court? If so, which jurisdictions? Will you pay legal fees for any users of your product that are sued for infringement?
Seems like a bold claim that a making a derivative work can avoid copyright protection just because you used an AI to modify the image.
That's now how copyright works.
@chrismessina Thank you for your question. Synthesys X is a tool that produces unique images from a user-selected image. The AI-generated image is not an extension of the copyrighted image. Hence, it can be considered a work of inspiration but not a derivative.
Technically, we analyze the image and translate it into text (a text description of the user-selected image), then we create variations of this image based on the text input, just like any other AI image generator. This allows our extension to create unique, one-of-a-kind images without reproducing or manipulating the original. Instead of logging into web apps, we integrated them directly into the browser.
You can read more in our disclaimer here: https://synthesys.io/disclaimer/
@olivergoodwin I was mistaken. When I was on my phone, it wasn't clear that you're using AI to generate a look-a-like image, rather than merely replacing an object or element of an existing copyrighted image. The latter seems more legally dubious, whereas the former (AI-generated image from copyrighted works) is untested.
Ultimately you're trying to find a way around paying a licensing fee for a creative work, but then you're charging people to generate synthetic content.
Your disclaimer also undermines your key value prop:
The Company owns the proprietary Software protected by copyrights owned by the Company. The Company allows you to use it as a licence [sic] only for recreational purposes. The nature of the Software allows you to recreate any image into an AI generated image. If you wish to use any copyrighted material, please ensure it does not go beyond ‘Fair Use’. Should its use exceed the limits of fair use, you must obtain permission from the copyright owner.
In your second gallery image, you say that the user of your software will "own all the copyrights" and can use it with "confidence", and yet you say that users of your software can only use it "for recreational purposes", and may need to get copyright approval from the copyright owner.
Which is it?
@chrismessina there are currently different perspectives on who owns the AI images copyrights. However, the screenshot’s copy needs to be rewritten to reflect the disclaimer more accurately. Even so, the generated images can be used for commercial and non-commercial purposes.
This is huge! Especially as a chrome extension, this is a game changer for anyone putting together presentations, decks, or even using images on websites. Congrats on the launch ?makers !
@aridutilh Thank you! We're very excited about the launch and grateful for your support. We hope it will make a difference for people putting together presentations and using images on websites
Super cool project. I think this one is a game changer. I think even better than having a photo which is similar to a stock pic is that the AI generated one only exists once. Love it!
