Spoken serves up short daily tasks that challenge language learners who are intermediate and above. Our speaking practice focuses on expressing yourself spontaneously. Our listening practice uses human native speakers, talking naturally.
Hi. I’m Sarah. I’ve been developing language learning technology for over 15 years. I’m a language learner and qualified language teacher.
With Spoken, my co-founder and I wanted to develop a modern language practice app that uses AI, but doesn’t rely on it entirely.
Spoken is not a structured course. It’s for people who’ve already learned the language to intermediate level and now want practice. It's also not a chatbot.
🛠️ The app is a ‘toolkit’ of several useful features that don’t exist in other language apps. The three hottest features are:
🍊 Speak spontaneously about a topic for 1 minute, then see your mistakes clearly highlighted. This simulates the pressure of a real life conversation and helps prepare you for the real world. 🍓 Listen to a human native speaker (not an AI voice) talking naturally then write any words that you could hear. Gradually build up the full sentence, focusing in on the parts you couldn’t understand. 🍏 Playlists. An audio-only hands-free way to practise vocabulary or grammar. It’s like flashcards that you can use without looking at your phone. Hear the word or phrase, think or say the translation, then hear the translation to check if you were right. Great to use while multi-tasking.

Price: £4.99 / month or £49.99 / year
Slick way to force myself to practice speaking naturally - something that’s far too easy to avoid entirely with other language apps.
Excellent app with a practical user interface.
Just what I was looking for to improve my English. Love this!
