"Why shouldn't artificial intelligence replace you?"
Yesterday I met my friend after 2 years, and of course, after such a long time, we had a lot to talk about.
I was excitedly talking about technology and what AI can do, since he is not primarily from a tech background.
Suddenly, he surprised me with one question: (He got me.) 😅
"Tell me, why shouldn't AI replace you?"
And it's really hard to answer this, because AI is starting to be much better at tech/online things than the majority of the population.
What would your answer be?
Imagine this as a test, that your employer or customer asks this. – What argument would you use to convince him that you are better than AI?

AI does not truly understand documents; it replicates the statistical patterns of the words they contain. It lacks the subtle, experience driven judgment required for complex tasks. In software engineering, the goal is not just to produce code that works today, but to design systems that are maintainable, scalable, and resilient to future demands. While AI can rapidly generate multi-layered architectures, it does so without awareness of context, long-term constraints, or unpredictable edge cases. As a result, the systems it builds are often brittle likely to fail in scenarios it cannot anticipate.
Furthermore, AI lacks responsibility and ethical awareness. It cannot understand the real-world consequences of its output. A single misstep in code could affect someone's health, financial security, or personal data. Vulnerabilities like prompt injection demonstrate that placing AI at the center of mission-critical decisions is risky and potentially dangerous.
Human developers play a vital role as the decision-makers and ethical guardians of software systems. Their value is not just in writing code, but in combining technical skill with foresight, experience, and accountability.
In this context, AI is best viewed as a powerful tool a sophisticated instrument that enhances productivity when guided by human judgment. It can automate narrow, well-defined tasks. But the responsibility for architecture, security, and long-term impact must remain in human hands.
AI may assist, but it should not replace.

Better? I'd say that we're good at different things.
The dictionary has more words than I do, but I use them better.
AI has more patterns than I do, but I can create new ones that it has never seen.
True innovation doesn't come out of AI alone because it requires creating something new, that wasn't there before. Humans are better at true creativity and art. AI wasn't build to do that.
But together, humans and AI can make a better team.

@martin_rue Something has to be true about this. Yesterday (or the whole weekend) collaborated with ChatGPT to create some good copy for advertising – I am quite satisfied with what we accomplished together. I am pretty curious what the client says about that.

@partick_support Hahaha, yeah, but have you seen that video where participants tested new ChatGPT, they had the camera turned on and AI could "read the people in the room" – their facial expressions? It is becoming extremely good.

As a human you may can understand what is AI Generated content and whats not. In the same way AI Can do everything but that can't feel you as human, at a time you need to feel human touch everywhere. And for this 1 reason AI can't replace you.

@busmark_w_nika As a solo-founder, I'd like AI manages all the daily tasks of my operations.
By now, AI is a just copilot for me. It increases my productivity 10X, what is amazing.
But cannot replaces a human person 100%.
What will happen the day that AI become fully autonomous?
I know: nobody predict the future, but we can take a look at the history.
Every new technology killed jobs in the short term, and created new jobs in the long term.
I believe: The quality and quantity of the jobs in the long term will be higher.
New industries will surge.
Which industries? Nobody knows yet.

I'd say "AI is meant to be a tool". The usefulness of the tool depends on the user of the tool. AI is a once-in-a-lifetime revolution. Sure - AI writes better than me and it can create images and videos better than I can.
Which means - I can use it to be 100x more productive and do amazing things. If AI is replacing me (ie. taking my job), I'd better be doing something better with AI and not do a job that AI can do.
Therefore, AI can't replace me.

(Also, my caffeine addiction and questionable life choices add character to the workplace. ChatGPT can't replicate that chaos.)
