Indie developers: What obstacles have you faced as a one-person company?

In the AI era, indie development, full-stack CEO, and one-person companies seem within reach, but while the ideal is beautiful, reality may bring many challenges.

I'm curious about what difficulties you've encountered while doing indie development and how you solved them?

Also, my understanding is that indie development means handling everything from product requirements to product launch, then go-to-market yourself (though of course you can reach out to KOLs/KOCs).

Is my understanding correct? Looking forward to your opinions! 😊

My major problem are context switches. From coding to marketing to debugging to designing. Either I get stuck in one area for too long, neglecting other tasks or I do the tasks that are fun, but aren’t that important right now.

BTW: This gets harder the older I get. 🤷‍♂️

@stefanfis Thank you for your replying! From a positive perspective, I would define it as developing one's T-shaped skills. While it may seem that each area lacks depth in the short term, in the long run, you will become increasingly well-rounded.

If they see you as a one-man show, they "degrade" your work because they think you deserve less money when you build solo.

@busmark_w_nika Oh😳… I never really thought about this kind of bias. Thank you for sharing your perspective!

@gin_6078 It really happened to me.

@busmark_w_nika I'm sorry to hear about what you've gone through. 🥺How did you manage to overcome its impact?

Nika

@gin_6078 I had to somehow ignore it, and I was in the position to negotiate, but most time, I had to say goodbye to such people :D
