We introduced the first version of Writingmate.ai on Product Hunt earlier this year, shortly after the announcement of ChatGPT. It was an experiment we wanted to try out - an extension that brings ChatGPT functionality to any web page across the internet. And guess what? It worked! The release was greatly appreciated by the PH audience and got 770+ upvotes. Over 20 thousand people have installed our extension, with hundreds becoming paid users. AI web extensions inhabited in relatively new niche with constantly evolving technologies and twists in users needs. A half year later, the market became flooded with AI web extensions that resemble 'Swiss army knives' complex tools packed with features to try to tackle just about any task. Keen to avoid this complexity, we harnessed feedback from thousands of users to refine Writingmate.ai in the way our users wanted to see it.
