If you are a freelancer, a consultant, an agency or a developer: There is no better way to prove your value and establish trust. Your Behance, Dribbble or website portfolios do not guarantee that you have actually done it yourself or not simply copy someone else. Doing a couple of design work or the website of a friend or a family member won t represent your future target market either so why not work on a project more difficult or more interesting. With the recent wave of people losing their jobs and becoming self-employed, the offer is saturated. Squarespace and others did not help either as they are allowing creators to do all the work by themself. Upwork and Fiverr have 10x times freelancers and people looking to hire. There are stereotypes about working with Indians, Russians and East Europeans. Often true, yes, but do not represent 100% of the people from these countries. Working or helping others for free to build great projects can cut these stereotypes and you can start building long-term relationships with purple, white, yellow, brown or french people like me eating frogs. Working or helping others for free can help you discover a niche of expertise or find a gap in the market and become desired by employers . Don t consider yourself good if you don t master the desired services because 10,000 other people can do the basic work for 10x cheaper and faster. I am tired of seeing old-school experts pushing others for lead generation, content marketing, funnel and social media strategy just to feed the garbage of the internet. You can find new clients by supporting them for free and letting them know what you are worth for future collaboration. Are you not tired of this narcissistic behaviour just doing stuff to make a living? We need more people helping others build the next big idea that will help the world be a better place. We have more and more web builders and integrations that can help you build another Facebook, Linkedin, Dribbble, Product Hunt, Airbnb Image helping someone building the next big gig. It s a bet indeed as risky as being a trader or playing poker and lottery. I did build such a community of people interested to help for free.
