Feature release: Connect to any MCP server with 2 lines of code
MCP servers are all the rage at the moment. Our brilliant eng team at Portia AI shipped support for MCP so we built a customer refund agent on Stripe's MCP server. We found MCP to be an excellent way to easily ingest tools regardless of the language they were written in, but there are still hurdles which we're sure will be addressed in time e.g.
1 We're missing auth support, which means tools need the user to be pre-auth'ed to use them, making those servers less plug-n-play as a result.
2 There is no way for an LLM to discover MCP servers when it is planning its course of action. The process is of loading tools manually is pretty static and at odds with the autonomy agents can otherwise achieve.
3 Some useful primitives like `prompts` are still not commonly used. those can go a long way in guiding the LLM on how to interact with a server.
