About

I love to build websites and tools - most of my projects have to do with data, geography or travel, or a combination of these. I run earthquakelist.org, a non-profit project with over 100.000 monthly visitors that gathers earthquake data from government agencies across the world and displays them in a single place. My interest in earthquakes started after moving to earthquake-prone Indonesia. In the past I've ran a website that gathered all interesting lectures and debates in the large Dutch cities, as well as gone campus-viral with a heavily improved non-official timetable website for Amsterdam University. In order to keep track of my own projects, I recently developed an SEO tool that makes it easier to monitor Google Search Console data. You can use it too: powersearchconsole.com.

I decide what's featured on the leaderboard - AMA w/ Gabe from Product Hunt

Hi everyone, Gabe here! I lead curating Product Hunt's leaderboard.

First thing I will say is that if I could feature every single product that works, I would. I love supporting makers and demoing products. I actually try to test every single thing that gets hunted every day... which is A TON.  But I view our job as to surface the most interesting, novel, useful, and innovative products - daily. Now we may not always get it right, the process isn't perfect, but we're trying to do right by the community.

Experienced hunters, how to get featured next time?

Yay, I launched my product on Producthunt today (post) :-). I quit my job 7 months ago, and after over 2000 hours of building its finally live today, super excited. I spent a lot of time optimizing my website and post, adding videos, graphics, a free plan, discount code, demo account, shoutouts and more, as I don't have a big audience and hoped to get the most out of this opportunity as I only got one shot.

Unfortunately, it didn't get featured. I do have some enthousiastic users, and during the first hour, I had more upvotes than many of the featured products today . After the featured products had 4 hours of exposure, I was at place #28 (number 1 of 180 unfeatured products).
