What do you think? …

How do you pick the people to get recommendations from? What are some of your personal faves? @jennytkim

Hey @abadesi thanks so much for your interest!! 1. How do you pick the people to get recommendations from? A lot of the people are our own role models- we're trying to feature many impressive females as we've personally had a hard time finding female models vs males. We've also collected many people suggestions from friends and via the contact form on our website. Let us know if you have any suggestions! :) 2. What are some of your personal faves? Mine - Sophia Amoruso, Arianna Huffington, Barack Obama Christine (my co-founder) - Yuval Noah Harari, Dara Khosrowshahi

@jennytkim I'm asking out of pure curiosity cause this part caught my attention: "we're trying to feature many impressive females as we've personally had a hard time finding female models vs males." Why would one try to find specifically *female* role models? Of course it's ok to have a female role model, just as it it having a male role model, what I don't understand is why would you search for a female specifically to be your role model instead of naturally coming to admire admirable people? What role does gender/sex play in such things?

@anna_0x Hey Anna, thanks for your question! You're right in saying that we should just admire admirable people overall, but especially in male-dominated fields, I think women models provide confidence for other aspiring women. In my experiences working in entrepreneurship & tech, there have been many times where I've felt insecure as a woman and so, seeing women (compared to men) excel in these fields is particularly inspiring. I know many other women have shared these sentiments - my friends, the stories of sexual harassment issues we hear about in media, etc. There are many other fields that we feature on our site (politics, science, sports, etc.) that are male-dominated or have aspects that favour males and our hope is that our women readers feel more confident after finding a woman model to admire in these kinds of fields.

@jennytkim hey Jenny, I have a very rough understanding of where you're coming from but again: "I think women models provide confidence for other aspiring women" I don't really get this, since to me at least, the fact that someone is a woman, does not make it easier for me to identify with them, does not make me feel like anything connects us. To be it honestly sounds like "as a blond person, it gives me confidence seeing other blond people being successful in brunette-dominated fields". Maybe that sounds funny, but that's how the gender things sound to me as well :)
