I'm Jason Kirby, a serial entrepreneur who's sold 4 companies, including my tech company, LiquidSky, to Walmart. After experiencing firsthand the frustration of raising capital and selling my company, we’ve transacted over $200m as a firm. I know what it takes to get a good deal done. 💭 But here are some quick hard truths about fundraising:
• Just cause you match with an investor, doesn't mean they'll invest. Remember that in the world of private investments, relationships and access are what gets deals done. We just make it easier to know who you need to know and that's half the battle.
• A list of leads doesn't contact itself. You need to use tools like The Swarm (special discount for our Premium users, $2,400 in savings) and LinkedIn to map warm intros to your target investors.
• You need to be building a company that's investable. Traction is key, so are your metrics. If you're too early for traction, but are working on something big, then you need to lean on your team’s background or have an edge in your market unique to your business.
