Snowflake provides an infrastructure, developer framework and end-user Dapp that enable developers and end-users to build & compose all kinds of automations for Web3.
After months of building Snowflake, I am super excited to share what Snowflake team has been cooking so far :)
WHAT IS IT ?
If you think this sounds familiar, you’re not the only one. Just to clear it out, we’re not the 100B+ Snowflake cloud data warehouse company that everyone knows about, … yet :)
Snowflake Network is a decentralised automation infrastructure of Web3. We chose to start on the Solana blockchain.
WHY ?
Unless you live under a rock, you probably have been inundated with the buzzing words of web3 and smart contract. They sound cool right ? For the first time in our technical evolution, we can push code that is immutable, autonomous and completely trustless. The number said it all - smart contracts today hold 200B+ in value without being managed by any centralised party.
As builders, this sounds really cool so a few years ago, a bunch of us makers decided to build something fun - a basic web3 recurring payment app. It didn't take too long for us to find out that smart contracts are far from being smart. In fact, it’s not inaccurate to call them dumb contracts, no offend to Vitalik Butterin :) Why ? Because smart contracts do nothing unless a human somewhere manually gives them a kick using a browser or a wallet. We realised that to build something comparable to Web2, smart contracts need to be smarter and that starts with giving them the capability to self-schedule & self-automate. We shifted to building an infrastructure for web3 automation and Snowflake becomes the solution for this missing but critical gap of web3.
WAIT, WHAT IS IT AGAIN ?
I wish it’s straightforward to describe something but as builders, we all know that there are always variants and multi-facets to a solution. To that end, Snowflake is 2 things:
#1 For developers - an automation infrastructure & framework that enables web3 developers to build automation powered dapps. Think about this as an on-chain scheduler.
#2 For web3 users - a composable dapp that allows users to compose all kinds of automations (limit order, dollar cost average, recurring payments, …) Think about this as the Zapier of crypto.
THOUGTS ?
Snowflake is available on Solana Devnet. If this interests you, the team is super keen for you to give it a test drive. Get started docs on our site or if you're impatient like me, you can just head straight to the dapp: https://app.snowflake.so . It’s built to be self-explanatory :)
We’d appreciate any feedback/ideas/suggestions you might have. Feel free to hit us right in this thread or our team Twitter DM is open.
Thank you all, hunters !
Have a fabulous day !
