What do you think? …

@gijsheerkens Lol, I really like the idea. What your vision from legal standpoint? Isn't this forgery of documents/providing invalid information?
Richard Gao
@gijsheerkens @ivan_klimenko Same here. I'm not familiar with passport law, maybe it's different in the Netherlands?
Gijs Heerkens
@ivan_klimenko @richard_gao2 Of course this will be an issue at the beginning, governments don't adopt innovation quickly in general. I believe in it though. As long as the photo looks natural and you are recognizable. That's the purpose of a passport photo. AI can already generate better photos than my customers have been able to take with their phones in the 10+ years my website exists. And those photos were accepted for documents as well. When I started out back in 2009 everyone said it could never work as well. It's a matter of time.

The site looks nice and I like the general idea. However, I see many drawbacks: šŸ’ø You're more expensive than a professional passeport photo shot, which is guarantee to be accepted for passeport application. In Luxembourg it cost you 20$. šŸ–Øļø Customers will still have to print the picture, on photo paper, at the correct scale, to be accepted. Since digital photography aren't allowed for most of the country (for obvious forgery concerns) šŸ§‘ā€āš–ļø It can be considered as forgery in many countries, since it's not your picture. It may even not be allowed anyway. For ex. in France or Luxembourg it have to be made by licensed automated cabin or professional. šŸ›‚ Can you guarantee the biometrical data are preserved by your process? If not, it will result on very very unpleasant situations. šŸ¤– You'll collect biometrical data of many many many users. In several EU countries, GDPR have been translated with more rigidity regarding such kind of data. First, for most of them your data have to be stored on pre-approved provider, on EU territory. Second, for France for example, you just cannot collect such data except for building access control or national security (military). ā›”ļø Public should be highly sceptical to a service that will collect data that can be used to impersonate you or leads to identity theft or building face recognition tech. Even if you're coming with good intention, people should not trust you and that's probably the most difficult thing to address in such business. Building trust.

@thibault_milan Thanks for your feedback, Thibault. šŸ’ø I expect the price to decrease over time when technique accessability gets better. šŸ–Øļø I already offer print service, infrastructure is there. šŸ§‘ā€āš–ļø I think it's a matter of time, since the purpose is to identify a person. When the photo is better or of equal quality than a conventional photo, there will be no problem. šŸ›‚ Yes, this is the biggest challenge. I absolutely believe it's possible. šŸ¤– Our privacy policy is GDPR friendly. It's allowed to collect these data if it's necessary to deliver a service, as long as you don't store it longer than necessary. ā›”ļø This hasn't been a problem since I launched my service in 2009. There's no difference with a local photographer that takes your photo and has the data as well. You always have this trust issue with all services you are using. I tackle this by following GDPR rules strictly.

Hi all! I'm the maker of Passphoto.ai šŸ™ŒšŸ» Since 2009 I'm running an online passport photos service in The Netherlands šŸ‡³šŸ‡±. Biggest issue for users has always been taking a correct photo that complies with the strict rules. By applying new AI technology šŸ¤– (Stable Diffusion and DreamBooth), I can help users to overcome this issue. AI can recognize facial structures and generate several official passport photos out of photos from the user's phone library, that depict the user's face. Afterwards the passport photo software will check and crop all generated photos based on the requirements of the user's country. Like this, each user receives two passport photos that have been generated by AI and checked by our trusted software āœ…. I decided to launch worldwide and serve all countries with this idea šŸŒ. Price is $49. I'm still training and optimizing the AI model, so early adopters can use promo code "producthunt" to get 50% off! šŸ’ø

@gijsheerkens Was your profile picture also created with Stable Diffusion and DreamBooth? Either way, it's a very interesting project. Congratulations on the launch.
Gijs Heerkens
@ormosisdotcom Yes, it is! Thanks.
