Ktab

A better way to bookmark

Ktab is a bookmarking extension. It allows you to filter your bookmarks based on the site they're from, the time period you saved them during, and the tags associated with them. You can also see what your most common sites and tags were during any time period.

Hi fellow product hunters! Ktab is a tab management extension that I'm excited to share. To organize your bookmarks in Ktab, you simply type in a list of words or phrases (separated by commas) that describe the bookmarks you're saving. These are stored as tags that can be used to filter your bookmarks later on. Ktab automatically sorts your bookmarks and allows you to filter them based on any combination of tags, the sites the bookmarks are from, and the time period they were saved during. You get a great deal of organization with very little manual effort. I've imported my bookmarks from a previous project (Freezetab) and it's been amazing looking through my archive and seeing what I was interested in during different periods of my life. You can navigate to a specific day, month, or year and see what your top sites and tags were during that timeframe. You can for example see what bookmarks you've saved during 2019, from producthunt.com, with the tag 'chrome extension'. I think you'll enjoy Ktab. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or feedback.

@ksbrooksjr Ktab means Book in Arabic. Thumbs up if it was used in purpose

Hey Keith, the product looks awesome! I'm curious about the name "ktab". It means book in Arabic which I think is pretty cool lol (especially if it's coincidental)! How did you come up with the name? Is it short for Keith Tab haha cuz that's cool too

@marawan_1997 I was about to make the same comment! I love the name.

Hey Marwan! The fact that kitab is the Arabic word for book did not escape me. Linguistics is one of my interests outside of programming and design. I think linguistics and programming language syntax go hand in hand (I believe Larry Wall actually studied linguistics). I've always been interested in the Afro-Asiatic language family in particular. I love how in abjad writing systems a single consonant root can represent so many related words. So yes, the k-t-b root was definitely one of the inspirations behind the name. The fact that k is the first letter of my name definitely helped during the decision process as well :). I also chose the name Ktab because it's a 4 letter word, and therefore very easy to type. It also rolls off the tongue nicely, and the domain name ktab.io was available. I love how diverse the product hunt community is!

Looks amazing ! I was just thinking about building my own since nothing in market satisfies my needs. Yours addresses every single requirement I had 😊 I'll try and post more

Thanks @niranjan_sonachalam! I definitely thought that despite the vast number of solutions in the market, nothing really fit my use case perfectly (not even my previous Chrome extension). I'm glad you're enjoying it. 😀
