Hello! Since you're reading this, you're probably obsessed with writing stories. Me too! I'm especially interested in how they take shape, and who helps to craft them.
Collaboration is a core part of storytelling. Most books are the loving work of multiple people: editors, co-writers, ghostwriters, and early readers. But, story-crafters don't have great tools to help them work together.
We're changing that by building better tools for the wonderful humans who craft stories. ❤️
I've been test-driving this recently (working on a novel) and it is the book-writing app of my dreams. Imagine if Google Docs and Scrivener had a baby, and that baby cheered you on whenever you hit your writing goals. It's the best!
Things I love about it:
- It's all cloud-based so you'll never lose your work.
- It's collaborative, ideal for working with editors or co-writers.
- There's an outlining tool so you can plan your plot in advance, or just write it as you go, and it's easy to shuffle scenes or chapters around later.
- You can store notes and link them to specific lines in the manuscript, or to whole chapters.
- It looks delicious. I'm excited to open it up every day.
- It has a daily goal tracker for how many words you've written today (very motivating/terrifying).
Fellow writer-nerds, I highly recommend it.
I started using first draft for completing my short story collection. It's easy to navigate and use. Unlike google docs, it gives you quick access to specific parts of your work through the chapter and scene tabs, which come preinstalled.
Still feeling my way around but so far so awesome!
I have been using this product to plan my novel and it's got the most amazing functionality for that exact purpose. I love the modularity of all the sections, you can drag and drop sheets of writing to where you need it, and you get an eagle eye view of the whole project. I've just started writing using First Draft too and it's great being able to see my planning scroll past as I'm busy writing that section. 10/10 would highly recommend for writers!
The ability to simply rearrange chapter/ scene text has been super helpful for my academic writing. Not to mention the accountability of the daily word counter! 👌
