We have pretty strict selection criteria - https://console.dev/about/#selec... - and being conscious of how limited everyone's time is, we limit our reviews to around 600 characters in the email. Our podcast is never more than 15min. All this is about respecting developer time and only covering things we think experienced developers will check out.
Console started as a weekly newsletter but we're aiming to build it out to be the place for developers to find the best tools. This is why we've started a podcast, and there's more to come later this year!
@idoshamun Thanks, Ido! We keep track of hundreds of sources! Lots of these are company blogs (thanks for RSS!) but we also browse forums like Hacker News, Reddit and Twitter where people are always talking about things they like. Sometimes these are top level posts but we often find interesting things through the comments as well.
We also subscribe to a lot of other newsletters, but our goal is not necessarily to include things that are "breaking news" or "trending". We like to try things out and have our own opinion for what we review. Sometimes this includes "new" releases or features, but equally it could be v5 of a tool released a decade ago that we think is worth everyone knowing about.
I regularly come across things that have been around for years but I've never heard about. I'm sure that's the same for a lot of our subscribers as well!
