With Skype shutting down in May, I built ZippCall as my solution for browser-based calling. As someone from the UK spending lots of time in Morocco, I constantly struggled to make affordable calls back home to my bank and family. Skype was my saviour, so when I heard it was shutting down I knew there was room for a simple replacement.
I was inspired by @levelsio's post on X and people commenting on Hacker News about how they relied on Skype for making international phone calls, and decided to build exactly what they and I needed myself - a simple way to make international calls directly from any web browser, whether on desktop or mobile.
