Hello hunters! 👋
Over the past few months, we've been working on a macOS app for taking notes without interrupting your flow. We're excited to finally launch Type today! 🚀
Type lets you take quick notes wherever you are, so you can stay productive and focused on your task at hand.
It includes the following features:
→ Accessible from anywhere – Launch type via keyboard shortcut
→ No synchronization issues – Your notes are stored in text files
→ Timestamp your notes – The date is automatically attached to each note
→ Quickly switch between notes – Navigate via arrow keys
→ Customizable – Select your preferred date style
We also plan to develop the following features:
→ Option to keep the app always visible
→ Delete a note
→ Delete a note
→ Search notes
→ Export note
We built this app to meet our own needs, such as:
→ Highlights – Capture your thoughts for your next 1-1
→ Time Tracking – See where you spend your time
→ Journaling – Write a note every day
→ Debugging – Steps to reproduce a bug
We would be very curious to discover new use cases. How would the app help you? Let us know! 😊
Thank you. ❤️
@chrismessina Thanks! I didn't know Notational Velocity, looks very interesting!
I just checked their website, here are a few key points:
- Type doesn't support search yet, but it will use the same text field for sure,
- You have to click on New note / Cmd+N to create a new note and choose where you want to save the file
- No encryption
- You can use Type with the mouse or the keyboard (similar to what Raycast does in terms of keyboard shortcuts)
- Add soon as you press Enter, the note is appended to the text file
- Since notes are saved in text files, you can put them in your Dropbox/Google Drive/One Drive/Obsidian folder to sync them
@nicol3a@chrismessina I didn't know about NV either! Interesting. I do think time-to-note and time-to-retrieve are super important, though as my personal note base grows, I value structure (e.g. backlinks) more and more.
Congratulations Team Type on your launch on Producthunt! The hassle-free note-taking concept is ingenious. An interesting feature could be a voice-to-text option, helping users quickly jot down while multi-tasking. Can't wait to see where this goes!
@stpe Thanks for the feedback. A few people have asked me if they could save the note in a different place than a text file. I need to do some research on this. :)
