@kevingolan Hi Kevin, Thanks for the appreciation and yes, I can understand, that from the elevator pitch, it may seem like a similar app and although there are quite a lot of overlaps right now, we plan to move in quite a different direction than Mapstr or any other similar app in this space. I don't want to compare each and every feature, but from a bird's eye view, there are a few philosophical stands we are taking which I would like to mention here: Our primary goal in making Trot is to provide a platform which makes location management, searching and sharing so easy, that it'll be hard to imagine how we were doing those things pre-Trot. Through good design, UX and tech, we want to make this act, which we perform mentally, multiple times a day, completely effortless. It may sound like a bold statement now, but we promise we'll get there. Another very clear conviction we have is respect for user's data and privacy. Trot will always be free, we will never have ads and we will never monetize on user data or push ads based on user activity. If you'll start using Trot today, even though it's a bit rough around the edges and has only essential features right now, you'll see these aspects reflected in the small design/architecture decisions that we have taken. All places are always private by default, making them public is an intentional act. Every place is an entity in itself and can be treated like that, you don't have to share an entire map to share multiple places with multiple people. Even when you make a place public, we've slipped an option to have a secret note which only you can see. I think you get the gist :D Very soon we are coming up with a lot more options where we'll allow switching to other map services, options to use most of the features offline if you find yourself in far flung places and most importantly, for our privacy fanatic, tech savvy users, option for end to end encryption is also coming soon. We have also deliberately kept the design as simple as possible, that echoes existing design norms so that there is little to no learning curve for a new user and this will also always be a priority for us. Hello, We made Trot because we were missing a platform to save and share all kinds of places with ease. Something where we can maintain a practical easy to access list of places important to us, for the everyday needs as well as whimsical travel planning. As people who enjoy the stories behind places we found ourselves sharing the local lores or our travel anecdotes and experiences with our friends and family over and over again. We often look to people we trust for travel recommendations to places they have already visited and vice versa. This usually takes the shape of endless messages with photos thrown in for effect, only to repeat the whole process, when the next friend is visiting the same place. Over time you forget the details like the name or the exact road. With Trot, places can be saved with a Name, a description and a few tags to help search back the places. And multiple places can easily be shared with friends who are using the app. Trot is also for those hidden nooks and crannies of your own home town you stumble upon by chance, or places you tend to always forget the directions to. Users can save places that are either private to them or are public and as such can be searched and accessed by other users. We hope that as our community grows, people will look to Trot as an organisation tool as well a place to find their next travel inspiration with ease.
