Hey there Product Hunt! 👋🏻 I'm Anita and I'm responsible for the Design & the Product Development at Swelly. It has already been 1.5 years when we decided to create the Swelly bot. 🐳 Fast forward to now, we are the biggest social polling bot on Facebook Messenger. ✌🏻😁 As we have a loyal community of over 6 million users, we wanted to take it a step further by adding gamification to our existing UX. ✨ Swelly 4.0 now provides over 30 badges which you can receive through higher engagement. That means: the more active you are, the more rewards you'll get! Further, through engaging with Swelly you also receive points which can be compared with friends and other users in our brand-new leaderboard. 🎉 Additionally, you'll receive a weekly status that shows your voting behaviour. Are voting like the majority? Then you're a “trendsetter”. 😎 If you are voting against the stream, you become a “rebel”! 😈 In the future, we plan to expand our gamification. Well, I like the way you implemented gamification. However, when testing, I was wondering how exactly I could earn points. How does it work? @abiope @greg_joh 🤔

@greg_joh @georg_buch hey georg! thank you for your question! - as our bot is mostly about voting and creating swells, you'll receive points for those actions. - but, also for inviting friends into the bot, sharing swells and getting followers. - further, if your swells are amazing you have the chance to get trending or even featured. that means your swell will be the first one that the users will see. for those 2 you'll receive the most points - especially when you get featured.

Since there are tons of apps that introduced badges/achievements and gamification stuff (and most of them in a not-so-amazing way) I'd love to know how you thought about adding these features and what helped you making the decisions about the user journey. Is there anything you can share about the process @abiope @greg_joh ?

@greg_joh @__tosh To be honest, the idea of adding a fun element to our UX already existed for quite some time. I created several designs of badges/trophies till I found the perfect idea. After a lot of meetings and researches with Joe, I came up with the current rewards-system. I think it was the best idea to use as we already had the point-system implemented. And why exactly gamification? IMO, helping people with votes is fun but helping + being rewarded to do so makes it even more enjoyable.
