A developer-focused alternative to Google Docs for instant team collaboration. Development teams can experience fast, effortless collaboration and instant alignment with markdown support and no account required.
Very excited to share Stashpad Docs with the community today!
Stashpad Docs is a minimal Google Docs alternative with markdown support and no account required.
As we embarked on adding multiplayer functionality to our original notepad product, we did a number of user interviews to understand how dev teams manage notes and docs in a collaborative setting. One thing that struck us is how, even when teams had an official team wiki in place (using tools like Confluence or Notion), still they would often rely on Google Docs for a variety of use-cases.
Google Docs has been one of the better options for ad-hoc collaboration, but for technical users it leaves a lot to be desired. It feels heavy and outdated. It doesn't have first-class support for markdown or even dark mode. And it can often be a hassle to get into a Google Doc with teammates, or find the doc you're looking for.
Unlike Google Docs, Stashpad Docs is:
👯♀️ Collaborative with no account required.
Share a doc link with a collaborator to jump in right away, no login required. Optionally create an account to unlock additional sync and security features.
😎 First and foremost a Markdown editor.
Markdown is a simple syntax for formatting text without leaving your keyboard. We're taking the time to work through all of the little quirks and annoyances when dealing with Markdown, such that it's a delightful editing experience.
🏄♂️ Intentionally feature-lite.
It has a minimalist interface so that it gets out of your way. It's with a technical user in mind - someone who enjoys using Markdown, dark theme, and appreciates ultra-fast interfaces.

We're excited to be introducing Stashpad Docs today!
One of our main goals with Stashpad Docs is simplicity. There's often this temptation to add features and make things more complicated than they need to be. In this product, we're determined to keep the feature set and learning curve to a minimum.
We think a good docs experience is free of clutter. It should be really fast, and it should get out of your way as you write and collaborate with others. It should also look nice!
Markdown is key as well. We think markdown is the best way to format text, and we're working on offering the best markdown experience we possibly can.
Beyond these core aspects of a collaborative document editor, we intend on maintaining a really high bar when considering additions to the product. If some new feature might be cool, but detracts from the feeling of simplicity - it's probably not worth the tradeoff. We want to protect that simplicity.
Simplicity also allows our small team to really focus on the core product and make it as good as it can be. Performance, live collaboration, and the writing experience are non-negotiables - we'll be continuing to invest deeply in these areas.
We're looking forward to your feedback!
Stashpad is a quick, elegant, dev-focused markdown collaboration doc. It was super helpful in collaborating on the blog post for this launch! Reminds me of Sublime but multiplayer.
I love the simple, streamlined UX! The product is as fast as TextEdit but has the rich editing capabilities of Dropbox Paper. I've been beta-testing it for a while, and it has already replaced all my note-taking and document solutions. I can't wait to see what they do on mobile.
