About an hour ago I saw the hashtag #SomebodyPleaseInvent trending on Twitter. I'm not sure how it got started, but people are using it to tweet ideas of products they'd like to exist. Very similar to how #RequestForStartup or #RequestForProduct is being used in the tech community.
I once built an aggregator for those kind of tweets ( http://RequestForStartup.co ) so I decided to clone it and build one for #SomebodyPleaseInvent too. I considered just pulling in these tweets into the existing site, but because many people are using it to share joke-ideas I figured it would be better to keep things separate.
The site automatically imports any tweet hashtagged #SomebodyPleaseInvent (including spam unfortunately) and then ranks them based on how many favorites/retweets they got. It's not perfect, but it's a decent way to filter out the junk.
The most popular ideas are tweeted at https://twitter.com/invent_please
Oh shit. Using the name #SomebodyPleaseInvent screws up my bot. Anytime someone mentions the site it's included in the feed of ideas. Whoops! Will try to weed those out.
