Hello Product Hunt 👋, I’m Gilad, the CEO of Sequence. Thanks, @benln , for hunting us!
🚀 Excited to launch Sequence on Product Hunt today! Let me share why we’re building Sequence and why it’s a game-changer.
The Problem:
Gone are the days of a single point of contact at your local bank for all financial needs. Now, the average American juggles ~15 different accounts, from credit cards to fintech apps. This fragmentation has made it challenging to track, manage, and optimize our financial lives. That’s where Sequence steps in.
With Sequence, you can:🔌 Connect & 👀 Visualize:
Consolidate all your financial accounts in one intuitive, dynamic UI. Visualize your entire financial landscape across various platforms.
🤖 Automate:
Set up smart automations to boost savings and optimize finances, based on criteria like dates and balance status.
🎬 Take Action & Get the Full Picture:
Unlike others, Sequence isn't just for viewing – it's for doing. Move money and execute financial strategies directly from our platform.
We're here and eager to answer your questions and hear your thoughts. Let’s chat!
@gilad_uziely congrats, Gilad & team! As a Fintech junkie (and former operator in the space) I’m excited to play around with Sequence.
I was surprised to see you don’t offer a free trial; can you share more behind your thinking on this? Always curious to learn about non-conventional approaches. 🙂
Also, curious to better understand how your Pods are set up: are you creating ad-hoc proxy accounts that hold individual users’ funds?
Lastly, kudos on launching with a community! Community-driven growth is a big area of opportunity, IMO, especially for a product like this. 🔥
@malaparte - sorry for being slow here and THANK YOU for your kind words.
Great questions.
1 - About free trials/tiers:
Here’s how we see it. When building new products the very first (high level) steps should be:
- Hack Conviction - Ideally, before building anything, you’d optimize for getting to conviction. Best thing here is to sell before you build. It’s hard and not always doable. We did it. Here’s a podcast with our story: https://codestory.co/podcast/e8-...
- Hack Value - basically here you are optimizing for learning. This is where we are now. We care less about growth and we are looking to provide the highest value for the right audience. In this stage you have to work very closely with your early adopters (that’s you guys) and need to be very careful with what feedback you take and which parts of it you ignore. If you offer a free tier or trial you might get confused as the feedback comes from people who don’t feel enough pain or get excited enough to actually pay for what you build. Here’s a good podcast talking about this: https://medium.com/starting-grea...
For these 2 stages, your best friend is friction. It is counterintuitive as we love slick, fast, easy and most of all, converting products BUT by increasing friction the signals you’ll get will be much stronger and will really help you focus on what’s important. That’s why when we were optimizing for conviction we charged $200 (lifetime deal) for a product we haven’t even started building (money back guaranteed of course) and now when we optimize for learning, we do not offer a free tier/trial.
- Hack Growth - we are not there just yet although we are growing faster that we could imagine. But in this stage you focus on growth metrics and then free tier might make more sense but again, not always.
As for pods, pods are bank accounts. Here's more info: https://support.getsequence.io/h...
Signed up to test it out. Paid for a month to try and work through the multiple companies we use. Service was cancelled abruptly before the month was through with no notice whatsoever. They didn't even refund the fee. Additionally, they provided no opportunity to delete our personal or company data, including sensitive data that they ask for upon sign up. There was no opportunity to revoke access to bank accounts either. Founders beware - do not use.
I was a new user and paid for the top-tier subscription. As soon as I logged into my account for the first time, it was closed. They did not provide anything meaningful regarding the account termination in their email. I tried to find an answer in their discord server (in a QA channel) but shortly after I left a message they kicked me off. The whole account service team gave me a very unprofessional and arrogant impression.
Love this product, I've been using it to route extra money on my checking account to my savings accounts and It made me so much more disciplined and efficient in managing my finances.
