I'm still waiting for the Android app, but I already use the https://ride.report/map on the web to find out what streets I should be biking on instead of the terrible routes I get from Google Maps.
@thinkindie Not sure about this app, but the iOS9 CoreLocation API's have provided more low-power mode, energy conserving options that we're able to use to stretch out battery usage. Energy conservation has really improved.
Specific to this app, Apple requires boilerplate warnings in the app store listing. These guys seems to offer a suspend mode, similar to Glympse app. Nice.
