Outside is an iOS app that helps you get the most out of life and spend more time with the people you care about. Add your countdown widget to look forward to events and share your calendar with friends to find time to spend together.
👋 Hey Product hunters!
I'm Blake and I'm excited to share Outside with you today - it's an iOS app designed to help feel excited about the future!
Outside started from a frustration Ryan and I had. It felt like our apps were eating away our time and did not feel like they did much keep us excited about the future. The tools we had for personal organisation felt too clinical and to make time with friends was still overly manual and essentially just lots of group chats. We had enough - and it looks people felt our pain too with over 400,000 added events on Outside this year so far!
It’s an app where you can add events in your life you’re excited about and they’ll be displayed beautifully in app, on a map and on your own countdown widget with lots of styles to choose. Life get’s busy, we know that and we’ve found we need something to look forward to in order to stay motivated. Outside’s your app to help you do that.
Example use cases:
🏖️ Look forward to vacation🧑🧑🧒🧒 Family weekend breaks👫 Date night with partner👯♀️Reunion with friends
To save you time, you can connect your calendars and make the events you’re excited about look much more engaging. Any event going on in your life like a vacation, moving out or a reunion with friends can be personalized just the way you like to match the occasion.
We believe that memories and experiences help us live better happier lives. Our goal is to help you have more of them and also to have them with the people you care about most. Every event on Outside can be turned social by inviting your friends/family or a partner. Start planning together, use your own private group chat and get shared reminders so nobody forgets to show up.
To help you figure out who’s free when, there’s a shared calendar where at a glance you can tell who’s free. Saving you time with the back and forth in dm’s seeing who’s free. We’ve heard from families, couples and friend groups that this has been a game changer for them. Less admin and more time together!
Outside is a tool for your own personal productivity but also a social tool with the people that matter most. You can use it solo or with other people.

@dash4u Yes so it syncs with any supported calendars by Apple. This means you do not need to login via Google, although it's something we want to support in the future. eg I use calendar sync with my Apple personal emails and then work Google ones.
@blakefolgado
Outside offers a unique approach to event planning and organization, combining personal calendars with social features. The focus on creating anticipation and excitement for future events is a refreshing perspective.
Here are some questions for further understanding:
- How does Outside plan to generate revenue? Will there be a freemium model with limited features or a subscription-based approach?
- How does Outside ensure the privacy of user data, especially when sharing calendars and events with others?
- Are there plans to integrate with other popular calendar or productivity apps?
Potential for Collaboration:
As a developer with experience in calendar applications and social features, I'm interested in how Outside's technology is built. Here are some potential areas for collaboration:
- Expanding Outside to other platforms like Android or web-based applications.
- Developing features like event recommendations or intelligent scheduling assistants.
- Enhancing the platform's security measures to protect user data.
Outside has the potential to become a popular tool for individuals and groups looking to better organize their lives and create memorable experiences.
@kjosephabraham Thanks a lot. So it mostly originated because we felt like most products wanted us to stay inside literally and did not try to change that. We chose the name Outside because we felt like it matches what we think is important. To get outside, not just in the outdoors but off the couch and really living. Doing things in the real world, with real people.
@max_savonin1 Appreciate the comment and thanks for the questions.
- We have a subscription where we generate our revenue called Premium.
- So when calendars are shared with people your events stay private and are labelled as "busy"
- We'd love to connect with more calendars and apps, curious which matter most to you.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions and taking the time. Hope you try the app out and let me know what you think!
congrats on the launch, team! i always tell my husband that i wish there was a sort of calendly for social activities with friends and family to make scheduling easier. i’ll definitely check this out :)
@blakefolgado I did check it out! Have you considered offering a family plan? Like Spotify or Apple Music. I think I would get the most value out of the app if my family/friends were on it too, but although I may be willing to pay for it, I can't force them to.
@aditimroy Ah yes so if you do join Premium, everyone on your iCloud Family plan will get it as well. It should work automatically for anyone in the family!
Outside’s concept of mixing digital tools with physical activity is refreshing. How do you motivate users to balance their screen time with actual outdoor experiences? Are there social or competitive features that encourage users to explore new activities or locations?
