Hello everyone! Today, if you want to chat online there is basically two options, video-only or group chat. Video based sites are full of nasty surprises and a poor fit if you are an introvert or have a slow connection. Group chats tend to drown out but the most vocal users and be filled with spam. Often, both are thinly disguised dating apps. I built MeroChat as an alternative. Text based, 1-on-1 and strictly for platonic conversation. It works like this: create a profile, optionally fill it up with conversation starters, and let MeroChat suggest you people to chat with. Making good chats earns you karma. Karma is a measure of how much other users trust you -- so certain features (like sending pictures) require a minimum amount to unlock. Since privacy is important, you can tweak every aspect of your profile, make it invisible or permanently delete your account at any time. E2EE is also planned. And of course, MeroChat is free and open software :)
