MarkdownMate is for AI coders. It quickly converts web documentation into a unified Markdown doc that can be read by AI coding assistants like Cursor and Github CoPilot. It is 100% free and available now on the Google Chrome Web Store.
Hello Product Hunt community! I am the creator of MarkdownMate, and invite you to share your thoughts and ideas, not only about this tool, but about AI coding in general. Id love to hear from you.
I built MarkdownMate to solve a particularly frustrating problem when coding with AI coding agents: the lack of access to current documentation for the agent to reference.
More often than not, the AI Agent takes its best guess, based on information that is months old and possibly completely outdated (e.g. a new version has been released since the cutoff date of the LLM model training).
Having access to the most recent, official documentation feels like a superpower. You can direct the AI agent to review for best practices, API taxonomy, troubleshooting and code examples.
The challenge is that *almost all* web documentation isn't in a single file. Its made up of a a bunch of disparate links, that have to each be read and downloaded in order to make a single document. Then you still need to convert to Markdown as the ideal format for AI agents to consume. Titan of AI, Andrej Karpathy even commented on this problem in a recent X post.
MarkdownMate solves this problem by instantly scanning the webpage links, and uses AI to assemble recommended content to include in the documentation. Then you can select the ones you want, and create the single markdown file in seconds. Often times this can save hours of time vs. performing this task manually.
This is my very first Chrome Extension and I found it to be challenging but rewarding. I use MarkdownMate every day in my own coding sessions.
I hope you find the tool useful and Id love to hear about what you are building with AI coding tools!
Awesome product Charlie for the vibe coding era. Congrats on your launch, looks like we are launch day twins or something anyway, wishing you all the best.
