Retro is a social app that feels like a joy, not a habit. Here, you’re posting for yourself as much as your friends because it’s a photo journal that helps you backfill each week with photos, videos, and screenshots that are already on your camera roll.

Retro is an elegant, fun app for sharing photos with friends — and now you can use journals as private spaces to bring photos together from groups of family and friends. Especially if you've got a bunch of friends on a mix of operating systems and shared iCloud Photos albums aren't a possibility, Retro's Journals are a great alternative!

Hi! I'm the co-founder of Retro with @ryanolsonk. Ryan and I first worked together on the launch of Instagram Stories. We launched Retro last year as the app that we wanted for ourselves and for our friends - our answer to the question: "if you could start all over, what would the perfect social network look like in 2024?" Retro is a distraction-free social app that helps you reconnect with friends and build a photo retrospective of your life, one week at a time. Last year, we launched the ability to share weekly highlights with your friends, recap those highlights for Instagram, and print and ship any photo as a postcard to any address in the world. Now, with Journals, you can build retrospectives across any theme. Journals are group photo albums that make it easy to document your favorite moments with your favorite people - even if they don’t have Retro. You can backfill journals with old photos, and then update them with any new photos over time. Perfect for best friends chronicling their year together, couples celebrating milestones, and parents watching their kids grow up a little each day. Because you can invite members to add to a journal with a simple link, they’re also great for gathering post-event photos from people that may not know each other after birthdays, parties, or weddings. Keep your journal private for members-only, or share a public link to your followers on Instagram. Life moves fast. Journals on Retro help you capture and look back on all the moments you want to remember, now on any topic with any group. We hope you love them.

Beautiful and simple way for connecting with friends without any of the ads or spam of Instagram or TikTok. Great for parents who want to share photos of their children in a privacy safe way.

I wish I had more people in my network willing to use it, because it's really neat, thoughtful and sticky without being focused on growth metrics.

The social platform we need, not the one we deserve. Shared with all my primary group chats. Congrats on the launch and please let me know if there's anything I can do to support!
