I built this project as an entry point to working with the OpenAI API. I sent it to a few friends and family who immediately started to use it regularly. Many of these friends and family were hesitant to use ChatGPT. Most felt uncomfortable talking to AI and didn't know where to start.
I specifically made JimmyGPT a little more human by modifying the system prompt. Additionally, I included a few preloaded prompts to encourage users to learn how to get the most out of AI tools. I changed the color scheme from military gray to comfortable blue.
One of the preloaded prompts creates a cover letter from a job listing. I took a screen recording of this prompt in action, put it on Reddit, and received 97,000 views in 2 days. Now I have over 100 users and am scrambling to improve the stability and features of the platform.
While many of my friends were hesitant to use AI, several are now chatting with JimmyGPT regularly. I think there is a massive potential to humanize AI tools to encourage casual users to interact with these features. JimmyGPT is just the start in providing customized AI chatbots.
