I’m Lawrence, Technical Founder and Inventor of InvisOutlet Pro. My vision for this device was to simplify smart homes by consolidating multiple device features into just one device. I’d love to tell you about why I created InvisOutlet Pro and how it evolved as I was working on it.
Smart home technologies have continued to evolve and show promise, but the continued frustration shared by over 20 million homeowners is the sheer quantity of smart devices required to facilitate key functions. The average American home has over 20 smart devices and appliances, almost all of which require different apps, power sources, hubs, etc. This dissatisfaction led me to begin experimenting with embedded smart sensors inside of a smart outlet, which were the prototypes of the InvisOutlet idea.
As development progressed, I realized that replacing and reinstalling outlets is a major barrier for most users. That insight led to a breakthrough: a modular design that redefined what smart outlets could be. By separating the sensors (In the cover plate) and the power source (In-wall smart outlet), I discovered a future-proof design for InvisOutlet that ultimately became the core of our product. Our vision is to accelerate the progress of smart homes by making upgrades more accessible to both homeowners and commercial properties.
After our successful Kickstarter campaign, we realized that this product could be commercialized, but in order to do so, we would need an app. This is when I developed InvisHome, the simplest way to see many different sensor measurements in just one app. It allows for full control and customization of InvisOutlet. While developing the app, we realized that a significant portion of our users would want to pair InvisOutlet Pro with their existing ecosystem, which is why we started using both the Matter and MQTT connectivity protocols to work with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and Home Assistant.
