GroceryTimer is a beautiful shopping, recipe, and pantry tracker that helps reduce food waste. Pick shelf lives based on USDA data or use your own and keep everyone synchronized with family sharing.
Hi all,
I am really happy to share my new app: Grocery Timer, a shopping list, pantry tracker, and recipe manager that alerts you when your groceries are about to go bad.
I built the app because I was constantly wasting money and food by buying perishables and forgetting about them as they went bad in my fridge. Turns out food waste is a huge problem both in terms of cost, in these days of higher prices, but also environmentally, accounting for over 8% of greenhouse emissions.
Grocery Timer lets you create a shopping list that you can use to plan your shopping. You can even share the list with your significant other or anyone else you make shopping decisions with. As you purchase the items, you can add them to your pantry/fridge or freezer to start a timer per item that will go off when the item is about to go bad.
I pull the expiration data from the USDA datasets but you can add your own data per item if you want to.
In addition, GT also includes a recipe scraper and manager that lets you add recipes manually or from websites (not all are supported but most of the popular are). You can quickly build your shopping list from individual recipes as well.
Anyway, this app has taken most of my last year to build but I am glad its out there now. Please give it a try and let me know how you like it 🙂
