The team is very excited to release Gandalf to the world. It's been a fantastic ~3 months of work. We hope you enjoy building with the SDK as much as we enjoyed building it. With today's alpha release, you can securely request user data from Netflix, YouTube, Amazon & Playstation with just a few lines of code. Gandalf allows end-users to share a wide range of data; the shows they've watched, the games they've played, their shopping history, etc. Our mission is to empower users with full control over their data, while providing developers with a stable, trustworthy platform free from unilateral API changes. @school_4_ants alas, we're not the first (and likely won't be the last) company to use the name. Examples abound: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ga... Also, if companies like Palantir, Anduril, Mithril, Istari Varda, Rohan, Shadowfax etc have kept their names thus far. We'll take our chances. Tolkein himself took the name Gandalf from the Old Norse "Catalogue of Dwarves" in the Völuspá, a poem in the Poetic Edda. The name Gandalf means "wand elf" in Old Norse, from the elements gandr ("wand, staff, magic, monster") and alfr ("elf"). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ga... @timigod Just because they haven't caved yet doesn't mean their position is legally defensible, and yours is the most recognizable steal out of that entire list. On top of that, anyone who likes LOTR / Tolkein will immediately despise you for trying to exploit a beloved character for your completely unrelated product. Take it from me -- instant ICK.
