Dropover

Easier drag & drop on your Mac
Dropover was ranked #2 of the day for December 12th, 2020
Dropover provides a storage shelf that allows you stash, gather and move any draggable content without having to open side-by-side windows. Simply shake your cursor while dragging to invoke a new shelf or drop your drags onto the menubar icon.

Dropover is a Mac utility that I use everyday. It replaces DragonDrop and adds several convenient features, including (in this updated version) convenient cloud sharing to your own Dropbox account! Grab a file, give it a shake, and send it to Dropover. It's the best shelf app for the Mac.

Thanks for the hunt, @chrismessina! This project started as an experiment to learn Swift and macOS development (I'm actually an iOS developer). It's inspired by other drag & drop apps, but they didn't fully fit my workflow. So I decided to see how far I can come to fill in these gaps (e.g. minimal UI, dragged content preview & easy sharing). Dropover improves the drag & drop experience on Mac by providing a storage shelf where you can stash your drags. Just shake your cursor while dragging and drop your files onto the shelf that floats on top of all other windows. Then navigate to your destination without anxiety and move/copy all items at once. It's also great for quickly sharing files. Upload your dragged files with one click and get the public link copied, right from the shelf. It comes with built-in cloud service but also supports iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive & Imgur. There's much more but if your workflow includes organising, managing or sharing files, then you should give Dropover a shot. I hope you like it, and if you have any feedback, let me know!

@dursunovic is there any plan on offering API access where we could integrate our own cloud file hosting?

@dursunovic @menjilx not at this moment. I am looking into integrating custom actions (which would allow you to also integrate your own uploading)

I currently use an app called Yoink that does the same thing. I'll download this app to see how they compare!

Review Dropover?

Dropover is highly praised for its ability to streamline file management and enhance productivity, especially for designers and creative professionals. Users appreciate its intuitive "shelf" feature for temporary file storage, which simplifies multitasking across applications and displays. The app's automation capabilities, like creating shelves for screenshots or downloads, are particularly valued. However, some users suggest improvements, such as preventing the shelf from stealing focus and adding keyboard shortcuts. The makers of ShakePin found inspiration in Dropover for their file pinning tool. Overall, Dropover is considered an essential tool for efficient workflow management.

I have been using Dropover since its early versions and a couple of times the developer have integrated into the application the suggestions I wrote him. I just wanted to say thank to him because he have built an application that was already almost perfect at early stages and year by year has made it beautiful and pleasant to use. Useful and well-developed. I test and use dozens of applications and I like to change them based on the "merit" of the developers. Thanks Dropover deveolper!!!

As a designer, I often find myself juggling multiple assets and exporting files throughout the day. That's why I decided to try Dropover, a Mac app designed to improve the drag-and-drop experience. I was looking for a tool that could streamline my workflow, and Dropover promised just that. What I Liked : From the moment I started using Dropover, I noticed a significant improvement in my productivity. The app allows you to create a "shelf" where you can temporarily store files before moving them to their final destination. This feature is incredibly handy, especially when working with multiple applications and windows. I can quickly gather assets without the hassle of switching between different folders or screens. The automation aspect of Dropover is a game-changer. I love that it can automatically create a shelf when I take a screenshot or download a file, making it easier to keep everything organized. It saves me time and keeps my workspace tidy. What Could Be Better: While Dropover has greatly enhanced my workflow, there are a couple of areas where I think it could improve. One issue I’ve encountered is that when a new shelf appears, it disrupts my current focus by shifting my cursor to the shelf. This can be frustrating, especially when I’m in the middle of typing or working on something. It would be great if the shelf could open without stealing focus. Additionally, having the option to set up keyboard shortcuts to access specific shelves would make the app even more efficient. This feature could help streamline the process further, allowing for quicker access to files without interrupting my flow. Would I Recommend It? Absolutely! I would recommend Dropover to any designer or creative professional who frequently deals with multiple files and needs a more efficient way to manage their workflow. It's particularly useful for those who use multiple displays or often switch between applications. Overall, Dropover has proven to be an invaluable tool in my daily work, and I believe it can help others too!
