Hi PH community! 👋 I’m Liam, founder of Dial8, and I’m beyond excited to share our app with you today! 🎉 My goal has always been to make it easier for people to interact with technology. Personally, I focus a lot on being productive—I don’t like wasting time, especially now that I spend so much of my day typing prompts and interacting with LLMs. Typing quickly became something I wanted to streamline, and I realized I could build a tool to help me do just that. But this app is about more than just productivity for me—it’s also personal. My dad, who doesn’t speak English fluently, has always been passionate about learning computers, even at his age. He’s inspired me so much, and I wanted to create something that could make technology more accessible to him. With Dial8, he can hold down a key, speak in Farsi, and have it transcribed in English—or Farsi—and it’s been amazing to see him light up using it. That joy is what made me think: there must be so many others who could benefit from this tool, whether it’s to boost their productivity or to help someone they care about overcome barriers with technology. The app is designed to be as clean and intuitive as possible—I love great UX and believe tools should feel just as good to use as they are useful. We even incorporated fun details like the MacBook’s notch and dynamic island, where you’ll see smooth slide-in animations that add a touch of playfulness to the experience. I’ve poured months of effort into making this the best it can be, and I’d love for you to give it a try. Congrats on the launch! Love the idea of on-device speech-to-text. How many languages does it currently support and are there any plans to expand that?

Thanks, @ihuzaifashoukat. The model supports nearly 100 languages for transcription and translation. Word Error Rate (WER) varies by language, with higher accuracy for well-represented ones like English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Hindi… while less commonly spoken languages tend to have higher WER. Despite this, it performs well across many languages. For now, I’m focusing on optimizing the current capabilities and enhancing the user experience. Expanding language support is definitely a future goal!
