Hello everyone, maker here! First, a little background: 4 years ago, I found a chrome extension called Tabbie (https://www.producthunt.com/post...) and instantly fell in love. However over the years, bits and pieces of the underlying stack started deprecating, and eventually, it stopped working entirely. For the past year or so I couldn't find any comparable chrome extension that worked equally as well, and so I set out to create my own. Thus I created ctrl-tab. ctrl-tab is an open source Chrome and Firefox extension (powered by Vue.js) which lets you customize your new tab page with feeds from the most popular tech and news sources, including product hunt! (For the full list of supported data feeds, check the website.) You can add/remove tiles via the menu and drag and drop them to make it look like how want. Currently, the Chrome extension supports logging into Todoist (very BETA), and I plan on adding many more login options, starting with (Reddit). In addition, I am working on supporting custom RSS feeds to allow you to add any sites that the extension doesn't already cover. Please report any bugs you encounter, as well as any providers you would like to see added here: https://github.com/ludicrousxyz/...! I would love to hear your thoughts and answer any questions you may have! Thank you! 😃

Nope Nope Nope! When you're opening up a New Tab it's because you're trying to do something. The last thing you should do is hijack your own attention with endless columns of news headlines that will pull you down a rabbit hole. Keep your New Tab clean and minimal. No need to handicap yourself, unless you're a masochist.

@joshuapinter I know since I am the creator, I have some bias BUT I noticed that overall I have wasted less time. Let me explain: If I open a new tab with the intention of going to a website, I would have the first few letters of the domain typed out (at which point chrome autofills it for me) and I hit enter. This all happens even before the extension renders, or at least before the headlines are refreshed so my focus is never stolen. When I do use the extension on purpose, I find that I visit the websites very rarely. I have almost no account history on ProductHunt but I have been a consistent reader for the past 6 months and that is because the extension shows me the top voted posts of every day. I open them in new tabs if they look interesting, and then move on with my work. In the end, I agree with you, about 50% of the people I talk to don't like this but there is that other 50% of users who do want something like this so it wouldn't really be fair to call them a "masochist."

its just so good

Pros:

this extension changed my life. It's quite possibly the sleakest, cleanest, an dmost useful extension in existence.

Cons:

It's so good it's not fair to the other extensions
