One of the big blockers to deploying a vaccine or testing medicine at scale is that doctors and other healthcare professionals don't have easy and reliable access to 'clinical trial groups'. These groups are basically tightly controlled beta tester groups for science who work closely with doctors to test new medicine and carry out experimental treatment before it's released onto the market. Nothing gets into market at scale without the help of these groups. Even 5,000 people in a city of 1 million telling doctors how they feel each day gives them enough data to accurately gauge spread, oncoming hospital demand, and conduct epidemiological research at scale. Spotting trends before they become real such as those who take paracetamol noticing change in symptom x can save lives.
