This is an awesome idea, a bit like those apps that let you rent out your driveway for people to park on. How do I sign up?

@richardesigns Thank you for the nice comment! This is exactly like that with the addition of allowing users to charge their EVs on top as well (makes it easier to meter the parking as they are plugged in). The savings in infrastructure and setup costs mean smaller, more omnipresent EV charging stations compared to large ones due to the large fixed costs. While the tax benefits for each customer alone are worth thousands over time, we expect an average customer to range in $200-$350 in monthly earnings and top 10 percentile to be at about over $1500 a month. You can order the chargers at https://store.allyvolt.com. We are ironing out plenty of details right now and will be shipping out chargers in January. Right now, we're also giving $300 to new hosts when they sign up. :)

@richardesigns @kshitij_agarwl You're welcome. Makes great sense. We already have a car charger on our home, infact we replaced a faulty one with a brand new one just last week. Can we still use the service?

@richardesigns You can absolutely use it as an EV owner to charge your car. Our plan is to open that up as soon as we have some chargers in each area to not turn off EV owners from our service. Regarding becoming a charger host with chargers from other brands, we wanted to make the charging experience a seamless one. Since other chargers can't connect to our servers to allow the charger owner to set it and forget it (apart from seeing money come into their accounts each month ;)), we can't support those chargers. Also for a charger host, we want them to be able to set up their prices (charging, parking, reserving) and availability schedule so no one can block their driveway when they need it. And for the EV owners, we want them to be able to search for chargers that are currently available based on use and schedule and walk up to them, plugin, scan a QR code, and walk away while their car is charged. None of these things are possible with a charger from another brand as ours has a 5" TFT color touch screen to allow direct, seamless setup, QR code scanning for clear, better authentication, and maintenance. We also plan to introduce advanced features on the chargers to save you even more such as time of use for your car, pricing based on time of use, and demand. As you add our charger to your home, that is also a business expense that can be deducted entirely (depending on what portion of it you dedicate to your business). The charger's final cost to the customer becomes the lowest (maybe even negative) compared to any other chargers in the market. Extremely happy to answer your questions! Please ask more questions so we can help you as well as the community.

@richardesigns @kshitij_agarwl Why not draft a service-based standard for EV Charger sharing and charging to implement cross compatibility / interoperability? That would provide one opportunity grow the User base faster than doing it all yourself.

@richardesigns @kshitij_agarwl @r_jermanis we intend to. Initially, we want to get enough customers to prove the business model. The market is slow to adapt and usually, we end up witnessing more discrepancy. There are other companies doing something similar, but they are not adopted and we see competing standards with no unified vision. As soon as we have enough customers, we'd intend to open up the app and platform for other charger manufacturers to connect with for licensing and at-cost transaction fees. We have some lofty long-term goals to build an EV charging network that is more powerful and ubiquitous than possible with anything else. Let me know if I can answer any questions and help you become a part of this. :)

Love the idea, I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Makes so much sense. I'm able to install a NEMA 14-50 outlet myself. Price is a little high without knowing how many users there are available for the service. I don't see any installation guides on your site. Also going to https://allyvolt.com/ bring up an unrelated MSFT tech stack page.

@r_jermanis The AllyVolt.com site will be the webapp for the charger host and user to allow management of chargers, see reports and other things like the electricity usage so they can deduct the cost of that as well each year. It is hidden for now till we launch the app in January and we ship out the first batch of chargers (there's a lot more coming on that end). I do appreciate the feedback there. Will have something better than an MSFT tech stack page to build further confidence for our customers. Regarding the cost of the charger - Our goal for the chargers is to make them the cheapest option available in the market. As our chargers are built to make it as seamless as possible, we have added tech like a color touchscreen to give us the ability to add valuable features to the charger to help our customers even more as we go. But we understand that it makes the chargers more expensive, for that we are giving back $300 spread over 6 months as host payments to both bring down the cost of the charger and for tax optimization. I'd like to add that since our charger is primarily for commercial use, our customers can deduct 100% of the cost of the chargers and installation from their taxes to get an additional benefit from them. There are a tonne more tax benefits that pay you back more than the cost of the charger itself within a couple of years. If you'd like, I would love to discuss further and answer any questions you have over call/email/chat. Disclaimer: AllyVolt does not provide tax advice, please talk to your tax accountant to understand the specific tax deductions that apply to you based on your unique situation.

@r_jermanis Regarding number of users available - We don't have any users right now is one of the biggest reasons why we are providing the $300 promotion to initial charger customers. Very chicken and eggy, but as you can imagine, properties that will generate good revenue will automatically see an increase in property value as well. As we are able to prove out the revenue, we will be increasing the cost of chargers slowly to ensure the charger use demand is met with sufficient profitability for veteran hosts.

@richardesigns not yet. There's plans for expansion, but right now we're trying for a targeted market to establish presence before we expand further even within the US. International expansion is likely to come soon after, fairly likely via partnerships for more rapid scaling.
