Our app is called "Allert-for food allergies." What it does is in the name; the double "L" is a reference to the word "allergy," and it generates an alert for it.   Allert dynamically generates an allergy flashcard in 44 different languages based on user settings.   The 14 major allergies are supported, which cover 95% of all cases: • Peanuts • Tree Nuts • Dairy • Eggs • Fish • Shellfish • Soy • Gluten • Mustard • Celery • Sesame Seeds • Sulfur Dioxide • Lupine • Mollusca We based this list on the EU Food Information Regulation No. 1169/2011 (FIR) and Food Information for Consumers Regulation (FIC).   Supported languages: Arabic, Bengali, Burmese, Catalan, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Javanese, Kannada, Khmer, Korean, Malay, Malayalam, Maori, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, and Vietnamese.   Allert is also capable of showing a message alongside the allergy warning for the following vegetarian diets: • No meat (lacto-ovo pescatarian) • No meat & fish (Lacto-ovo vegetarian) • No meat, fish & eggs (lacto vegetarian) • No meat, fish & dairy (ovo vegetarian) • No meat, fish, eggs, & dairy (vegan)   From the ground up, we designed Allert with the traveler in mind. The nonrequirement for a data connection for the app to work is an example of this. Once downloaded and installed, Allert works anywhere and everywhere. I have personally lived with a severe food allergy my entire life. A small trace of dairy and peanuts can send me into anaphylactic shock.   The idea behind Allert was born when I planned a long backpacking trip through South East Asia. Especially a peanut allergy is tough to deal with in that corner of the world. I laid out the idea for this app to a friend with experience in software development, and we got to work the next day. Several months later, I got on the plane with a very rudimentary version of the app in my pocket.   In the months that followed, I relied on the app to convey my allergies in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. In the rural areas of some of these countries, people do not speak a single word of English. The flashcard that Allert generated made my predicament very clear. Without a single mishap, I ate the native food at local restaurants and street food vendors virtually every day for over three months.   In other words, I'm the living, breathing proof that Allert works.   When I returned home, my friend and I immediately went to work. After many evening- and weekend hours later over the course of two years, plus several paychecks worth of our own money in investments, we have finished the app. Allert is available in the iOS App Store today, and we are proud of the result.   My allergy was the sole reason I never had the confidence to travel outside English-speaking parts of the world, and the app that we built opened that door for me personally. We hope that Allert will do this for others with food allergies, as well. Website https://allertapp.com/ iOS App store https://apps.apple.com/us/app/al...
