😸 Hi everyone!
👩💻 I’m the creator of Women Make, an open community I made so women can have a place to find support in the maker space. But Women Make is more than that. With this community, I also want to put women at the forefront by highlighting their stories and promoting their work in ways that don’t always happen in a male-dominated field.
⚡️ Last October I organized the Women Made 30 Day Challenge and also participated in it. The goal was simple: we had 30 days to build and launch something. We did this as a supportive community, meaning we built our products together, helping each other. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to develop a podcast. I shared what it’s been for me to start such a project in a blog post.
👀 Two things I noticed that inspired the project:
- There is a lack of diversity in the role models we can see in the maker and entrepreneur community
- From my experience with Women Make, sometimes women just need a little push to gain more self-confidence and start making/launching
🎙 I think a podcast is a great medium to shine a light on women and highlight more role models for us. It is a great way to put a voice to the stories of women like us, who started an entrepreneurial journey, and make it more personal. I think there is no better encouragement. Finally this podcast is not bounded to our community but intended for all the women entrepreneurs in general.
🤩 Today I’m very excited to launch the Women Make Podcast and reveal the first episode, which stars Kate Kendall. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better guest to start with! As the CEO of CloudPeeps and The Fetch, Kate has a lot of experience she kindly shared in this episode AND she’s also really charismatic.
💚 Thanks a lot to @katekendall for accepting to being my first guest, @tcodinat for the awesome GIF she made me for the launch, Internet Vin for his music I’m using in this podcast, @bentossell for hosting the 30 Day Challenge which led to this podcast among other things, and the support of the Women Make community of course!
I feel so lucky so have been part of the community that Marie has built over the last few months. It has undoubtedly given me the confidence to launch and be present in the maker community, which I was unsure of before finding Women Make.
I'm so excited to see Marie launching this podcast, shining a light on females that can be role models for others who are thinking about getting involved in technology. 👩💻
Kate was a great first guest and I'm looking forward to future episodes!
@stephsmith Thank you Steph! I'm moved by what you're saying. I've been really involved in this community and it's rewarding to see that it's working. You're a hell of a maker! I hope this podcast will decide other women too :)
Congratulations @marie_dm_ on the launch of the Women Make Podcast!
I am so proud to be a part of this growing community that Marie has built over the last few months and would have not been able to launch my first product without the support of the market community.
Thank you Marie for shining a light on Women Makers and look forward to listening to all the podcast episodes on my daily community!
Love that you're putting your passion behind Women Make, and it's great to see you expand into this medium. Listening to the first one right now, I like it!
Most podcast are run by men, there are very few by women in comparison. I can't think of a better person than Marie to run the podcast 🎙️
Keep up the good work. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to keep up with the group, newsletter & now podcast. And the million other things you do. Congrats on the launch 🎉
I love this idea and all of the hard work that's been put into making women more visible and heard in the maker community. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Most people I speak with in this space are men, so it's nice to gain a greater understanding from women. I feel that this helps me navigate with both eyes open. Marie has a soothing voice and comes across as comfortable doing what she's doing.
Looking forward to future content.
Pros:
Good questions, good pacing, and very relatable as a founder. It's great learning about unique perspectives from women in this space.
Congrats on such a heartfelt project, @marie_dm_ ! You can tell how much love and effort you put into this podcast and I'm so excited to see it grow. You are an inspiration to so many of us!
The questions and the flow of the episode was like podcaster who's doing it for a long time already! To be honest, it exceeded my expectations. Now I have a new podcast for inspiration which is hosted by my favourite women maker and also by the community I support! You should subscribe tbh
@marie_dm_ is doing an amazing job with Women Make, the group started just a few months back and is already full of so many inspiring women. Thanks for putting in all this time and effort to grow this amazing community and super excited to have a podcast now!
@marie_dm_ does a great job with gathering the most kick-ass women in her Women Make community. Now she interviews them in her podcast - what could go wrong with that?
I'm sure that the podcast, like everything else Marie does with Women Make, will help a lot of women to feel more self-confident in their maker / creator / entrepreneur journey. I'm really grateful to have found this supportive and inspiring community!
Marie is a fantastic leader so it makes sense that the podcast is so spot on. You can tell the podcast was crafted thoughtfully. Very excited to keep listening!
Pros:
Marie is so plugged into the women maker community so she knows the exact questions to ask. Loved the tone of the first episode!
Congrats on the launch @marie_dm_. This is so empowering and I'm sure will inspire many around the world. I'm sure you have scheduled to interview a ton of female makers. If not please add @anthilemoon, @abadesi, @suzywillow, @tcodinat to the list.
