Built a tool for fun. Now makers love it… and it’s burning a hole in my wallet. Time to monetize?
Hey everyone 👋
A few months ago I launched lovableprompts.app, a tool that helps makers and designers turn messy product ideas into optimized prompts for Lovable (and other vibe coding tools). It was meant to be just a small experiment to make the “blank page” problem less painful.
But lately, it’s been growing, it now generates 4,000+ prompts per month, and I’ve seen it pop up in workflows from indie makers, small agencies, and even a few design teams. Honestly, it works really well.
Up to now, I’ve been covering the AI and infra costs with a sponsor, but usage is increasing and so are the costs, faster than I expected.
So here’s where I’m stuck:
Should I keep looking for sponsors, or start charging users (maybe with a credit system or paywall for advanced features)?
If you’ve been through a similar moment with your own tool or have thoughts on monetization, I’d love to hear your perspective. Thanks! 🙌

Love the tool. Would happily pay if you keep it smooth and clean like it is now.

@aduma_emmanuel Thanks Aduma! Would you mind filling out this quick survey? https://tally.so/r/3j8j84 🫶
Hi @david_martin_suarez
really love the concept and the clean UX, feels super intuitive! 🙌
Curious: have you already tested willingness to pay with a small group?
Also wondering: what kind of pricing models are you considering? Flat subscription, usage-based (credits), or freemium with premium features?
Would be cool to hear what direction you’re leaning towards!

@letsdouzit Hi there! Thanks a lot for your kind words :) Yes, I’m currently conducting a survey with early users to gauge their willingness to pay. I’m considering implementing a credits system where even free users can use the tool a few times.
@david_martin_suarez sounds great! Would definitely implement the credit system to try it out. Once the limit is used ask the User to pay :) Good luck buddy!

@letsdouzit Thanks so much! ☺️
Is there an option to test the wallet only for some users?

@busmark_w_nika Hey Nika! I think there was a little misunderstanding, when I said “burning a hole in my wallet” I meant my personal costs are growing (AI credits, infra, etc.). 🤣🤣
Right now the app is free for everyone. Appreciate you jumping in! 😊
@david_martin_suarez aaa :D gotcha. Sorry, I would worsen your situation in that case. :D I am taking my question back :D

Why wouldn't you charge past a certain level of usage? I could be missing something obvious but doing free to try then paid to be a pro user seems like the de facto business model of a tool like this. It's nice of you to cover the costs until now, but charging for it means you can devote time and energy into making the tool better, right? Wouldn't users want that, too?

@steveb Thanks Steve! totally fair point. A usage-based (credits) model does make a lot of sense, and it’s probably the most natural evolution from where the tool is now.
I’ve been hesitant mainly because I didn’t want to introduce any friction until I validated the tool.. But you’re right, charging could actually let me dedicate more time and make the tool better for everyone.
Definitely leaning in that direction now!
If you like the project and would like to complete this quick survey, it would be fantastic! https://tally.so/r/3j8j84
Thanks again!

@david_martin_suarez exciting stuff, i think offering a paid tier after some amount of token consumption is still friction-less.
