Hey Product Hunt fam! πŸ‘‹ I'm Sam, a solo dev, travel enthusiast, and since last year a busy dad πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘§This is my first product, so please be kind πŸ˜… I used to travel a lot and people often asked me for travel adviceβ€”where to go, when to go, what to expect etc. Realizing the pain of sifting through generic info and β€œhidden” marketing, I decided to create TripTLDR. I've spent countless hours optimizing ChatGPT prompts to ensure TripBot gives you personalized, reliable travel recommendations. Next on the Roadmap is even more information for Destination Guides and probably an integration with flight/hotel booking. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, as I aim to make travel planning easier and more authentic for everyone. πŸ™ Safe travels! ✈️🌏

The idea is great, but it will be super hard, and expensive to keep this website up to date. Do you have any ideas how to monetize it?

Thx @mac_czaj πŸ™‚ I hope that LLMs will only get better and cheaper in the future 🀞 This MVP is built on top of ChatGPT3.5 with costs of around $0.10 per Destination Page. Once I get some traction, I will update to ChatGPT4 to get better quality. Keeping things up to date will be harder. Maybe I can add some context via embeddings later on. Currently, I'm thinking subscriptions for power-users and transparent usage of affiliate programs of the booking websites.

@sam_maass I like the idea of using ChatGPT to get ideas on where to go to. One thing that might be challenging is to parse the response from Chat, and show it in a useful way. Ideally, you could also add some additional content about local attractions, maybe from Wikipedia or something. I like this idea a lot :) Good luck.

πŸ’‘ Bright idea
Nice idea, and good looking website. A couple features you might want to consider for the future. - In addition to the months selection, add an option like pick in the next 3 months (it should figure out based suitable season, weather etc.) - Add option for cost conscious travelers to pick best time with lowest cost.

Thanks, @dipbhi Flexible time option sounds like a neat idea. I'll look into it πŸ‘ Adding costs for flights and accommodation is already on the roadmap. I hope to do a simplified version of what @levelsio is doing on nomadlist. Getting accurate data is a challenge, though.

Cool. I like the idea of inputting parameters and it shooting out ideas of places to go. Like warm cities near lakes, with fast internet. UI-wise it could be a bit clearer which paramters are for subscribers only. But I really like the concept! Going to be following how this goes

Thank you for the feedback, Thomas. Keeping the free version useful, while also offering a reason to subscribe, is something I need to improve and communicate better.

@sam_maass Imagine TripTLDR V2. This is a social hub, where visitors of triptldr.com are involved in discussions around traveling topics. They are forming community, most active participants return to TripTLDR even more often, because they know that they can meet interlocutors with common interests. Here are some themes of available conversations on such a platform: destination recommendations, travel itineraries, budget traveling, solo travel experiences, adventure sports enthusiasts, foodie group, travel photography & videography.

I'm into it. I tried using ChatGPT to plan our summer vacation and it was ~60% helpful -- not great, but the potential was definitely there. In regards to the Destination Guides, I looked up a location and while I found it useful, I also would've liked more specific recommendations like hotels and restaurants. Right now it feels a bit generic. Overall, I think this is a great idea and I look forward to seeing how it evolves/ using it for our next trip.
