Here's what I learned the hard way - the difference between those who make it and those who almost make it in high-stakes conversations isn't knowledge. It's not that extra framework or concept. It's the confidence, the muscle memory to handle curveballs, and the ability to bulldoze through when things get tricky. That only comes from practice. Lots of it.

In Dec '24, we built the first prototype to help ourselves have the conversation to shut down my previous startup. We loved this crappy version and so did our friends, and we've been building it since then.

This wasn't my first time struggling with tough conversations - MBA Admissions, Networking Events, PM Interviews, Promotion discussions ... At Google, I had access to professional coaches, but that's expensive and not available at 10 PM when you're prepping for tomorrow's big meeting. Sure, friends and family try to help, but they can't create that realistic experience - no calibrated feedback, no real pressure.

So we built what we wished existed - unlimited, hyper-realistic practice that's always available.

What can the new Tough Tongue AI version do? (The Agentic Upgrade)

v2 was simple roleplay. No tools, no memory. This launch? We've gone full agentic, and here's what that means for you:

This is me being the user of Tough Tongue daily, deeply.

Why I keep going back to it:

• I pitch a lot. Sometimes to investors. Sometimes to enterprise buyers.

• I use our Investor Coach scenario before every funding-related pitch. It’s like having YC’s ghost whispering feedback into your ear. Brutally helpful.

• For enterprise sales, I often upload the buyer’s LinkedIn as a PDF, ask the AI to role-play them, and then practice my pitch. Sometimes, I role play it: the AI becomes me and I become the buyer. Wild, but it works.

• Before big demos, I test messaging on the AI to simulate tough buyers. I can tell when something won’t land. Then I fix it.

• I even built a custom scenario to practice negotiation strategy with a real client situation we were stuck on. It helped me reframe the deal and the pressure.

What I like most:

• It’s not just a talking bot. It thinks, questions, pushes back, and mirrors real-world resistance.

• Real-time feedback is gold. Body language, delivery, tone, gaps.

• I genuinely believe it’s a force multiplier for anyone in sales, leadership, hiring, or negotiation.
  

What could be better (yes, I’ll say it):

• Agents occasionally get stuck. Think: “Hello? Am I audible?”

Yes, it happens here too. Latency, loop, lag. Like a bad Zoom call.

• UX still has room to grow. Mobile needs overhaul.

But we’re on it. We’ve mapped all feedback. Version 4.0 is going to be.

Final thought:

I don’t just sell ToughTongue.

I use it like my personal coach, deal whisperer, and pitch therapist.

That’s the real testament.

• Quality for Voice AI: It is no wonder that building on top of LLMs & Voice AI models is easy to start, but very hard to ensure quality & reliability. The team worked round the clock (literally in SF, Amsterdam & New Delhi). We added agentic paradigms in voice & non-voice workflows in the main voice AI engine as well other LLM based workflows.

• Product Completeness: Makers here would relate with how software products evolve from MVP stage and engineering teams are scrambled every now and then for new issues cropping up. This was a hard grind, where we took out the duct tape from 100 places in the codebase and truly re-engineered.

• Content: The course bundles for PM, Coding, Biz-Ops, ... have been fine tuned for truly giving the real-life experience. Also, there are many more scenarios, courses & coaches on the platform.

I’ve been using tough tongue while prepping candidates for jobs — not to intimidate, but to simulate the real pressure of interviews. I love this product specially for learning Dutch language. I can converse with AI and this has been helpful in preparation of Dutch speaking exam. While apps like Duolingo are helpful in only the reading exam, Tough Tongue helps in end to end preparation. Good job team 👏
