Launching the journal for analytically minded people

Hey everyone, I'm Jamie ๐Ÿ‘‹

I recently started working on something I've wanted for a long time. It's called Big Journal. As the name suggests it's a journal but with superpowers, designed for the kind of people who track, analyse and optimise.

Here's a sneak peek at what it brings to the table.

Networked Journaling

People, places and things are all first class citizens in Big Journal. They're references using handy keyboard shortcuts such as @ and #.

Inspired by note taking apps such as Obsidian, which used to be my go to tool for daily journalling, everything relevant is linked together which generates your life graph over time.

Powerful Integrations

When I wrote my daily entry I would find myself scanning through multiple apps to gather the information I needed to reflect on my day:

  • Commits in Github.

  • Runs from Strava.

  • Events from Google Calendar.

  • Health from Fitbit.

  • Finances from Monzo.

With Big Journal that isn't an issue. We simply integrate with all the tools that you care about so that when you open your journal it's already there for you to see.

AI Analytics

Our goal is to help you live a more holistic life and spot opportunities to improve. To do that we're utilising AI in two ways:

  • Interactive Chat. A way to interrogate your entire life using natural language.

  • Insights. Spotting interesting correlations between different aspects of your life. How the weather affects your social life? How certain people affect your productivity? Let us know which interesting ones you come up with.

And Much More...

  • Mood.

  • Habits.

  • Travel.

  • Photos.

  • Milestones.

  • Quotes.

  • Notes.

  • Links.

Check out our roadmap to see what else is on the horizon.

We're Live

I've recently soft launched Big Journal and while it's still very early you can try it out today. We'll be launch on Product Hunt in the near future as well as releasing our mobile applications: adorably called Little Journal.

Thanks for reading.

Really love the vision behind Big Journal!! Pulling together scattered data into a single reflective space feels like the right move for anyone optimizing across multiple life domains.

Which integration or feature surprised you most once it started working together with the rest of your system?

@iacop_hafiane Thank you mate. Really appreciate the support and good luck with the launch of Dereference ๐Ÿซถ

Something that surprised me is how much I use it already. I used to write a journal in Obsidian every evening. Now, with everything in one place, I find myself checking in multiple times per day.

It's so new that even I've not put loads of data into it yet but there's 2 insights I'm really excited to watch and see the results:

  1. Resting Heart Rate vs Productivity. I'm on a health kick at the moment and so I'm excited to see if resting heart rate goes down does that result in a significant boost in my work.

  2. Happiness vs Location. I've just moved out of London and I'm really interested to see how the change of scenery is going to affect my mood.
