Introducing Cosmos: Free Home Energy Monitoring for Lowering your ConEdison Bill

Hey Product Hunt community!

I’m excited to share something our team has been working on: Cosmos Home Energy Monitoring.

As energy bills get larger and larger, we wanted to give people tools to see where their energy use is actually going.

What is Cosmos?

Cosmos is a real-time home energy monitoring service designed to give you actionable insights into your electricity consumption with ConEdison. Our system tracks your energy use as it happens, breaking down usage by daily, weekly, and off-peak periods, so you can see exactly where your energy (and money) is going.

The goal: give you insights into your usage patterns so you can shift your usage and lower your bills.

Why We Built It

After talking with friends and reading dozens of posts from New Yorkers asking Reddit for help with high ConEdison bills, we wanted to help people get insights on their meter readings. We already offer this service for commercial real estate and we wanted to give back to our community in NYC by offering it for free to residential ConEd users.

What We’ve Learned So Far

One surprising insight: many users found hidden “energy vampires” (like old fridges, always-on electronics, or energy usage from other apartments) that accounted for a significant chunk of their bill.

With real-time feedback, they made small changes that added up to big savings. For example, we had friends that were able to monitor their electric usage while out of town and learned they were paying for their neighbor apartment's usage as well. With that insight, they called ConEdison to visit their building, read their meter, and make adjustments so they only pay for their apartment's usage.

Open Questions for the Community

  • For those of you who’ve tried energy monitoring, what features made the biggest impact for you? What is the hardest part about understanding your energy usage?

  • What integrations (smart home, solar, EVs, etc.) would you find most valuable in a monitoring platform?

I’d love to hear your experiences, feedback, and ideas. If you’re interested in trying Cosmos or want to share your own energy-saving hacks, I'd love to chat.

Thanks for reading!
