Rid - Sell with a Text

We make selling easier than buying. Just send us photos. We handle the rest. We research your product, find markets for them, negotiate with buyers, answer questions, and handle delivery/pickup.

Hi everyone! My name is Veniamin and I’m one of the co-founders of Rid. Selling your stuff sucks. You need to find the right marketplace, then list it, negotiate with buyers, and handle pick up or packaging. At Rid we make selling easier than buying. You just text us a few photos and answer a couple questions then we will handle the rest. A lot of us have stuff to sell but are too busy (or lazy) to actually sell it. We hope that Rid makes it so simple to sell stuff that we no longer have an excuse to not sell our stuff.

@vminvsky55 love the URL!

I had this question too:

Can you provide a min-max range for the commission you collect?

Chris Messina

@vminvsky55 also, when I click the "Get rid of something" button, a new message pops up with this text:

What does that mean?

Veniamin Veselovsky

@chrismessina That's the number that you text to sell something. Just send a photo of what you want to sell and then we'll sell it for you. Was it surprising when iMessage popped open?

Chris Messina

@vminvsky55 that the pre-filled text read "Sell me my" which is nonsensical.

Veniamin Veselovsky

@chrismessina Hi Chris! Great question. We are still figuring out exactly the commission rates. For now we're thinking that if it's with delivery (we pick it up in addition to finding a buyer) it will be around 30%. If we don't do delivery than maybe around 10%. That being said, it will also likely depend on the price of an item -- crazy to take 30% on higher ticket items. If you message #PH2025 we'll only take our costs :).

if it can handle messaging and shipping, that’s a huge chunk of work off my plate.

Rid.me makes selling old stuff as easy as texting a friend snap a pic, send the text, and they do the rest.

congrats team for the launch! is it like an end to end service for merchat or they can use some tools themselves?

Unused and useless things are going to be useful again. Such an Innovative idea!

Congrats team on the launch! This is an awesome idea - selling things online is so painful, so there's a huge market for this product.

Just a heads up - the "Sell" and "Get Rid of something" buttons don't work on my Windows laptop because it can't handle the imessage scheme. Maybe you could catch that error and show alternative instructions instead?

Benedikt Stroebl

@k_kelleher Thanks! Should work now.

I love the "back to basic but make it the best in the niche" concept. Way to go post-genAI for everything

Jeremy Yan

@benediktstroebl The description is pretty brief, is this AI handling the research and negotiations, or do you have a human team doing the actual selling? Also, do sellers get to choose which platforms you list on or is that all automated behind the scenes?

Is it available worldwide?
Benedikt Stroebl

@replibee For now, we are only active in the Bay Area. Rid will launch in more cities soon! Text us your zip code so that we can notify you once we are live. You can still use Rid to prepare listings and get price estimates. Try it out :)

Danny Blast

How does it work? I'm hitting the "Get Rid of something" button, and nothing happens.

Benedikt Stroebl

@dannyblast Thanks! It should also work now on Windows.

Danny Blast

Wait. Is this SMS/text, or iMessage? I texted "Hi" to the number, and received nothing back.

This is downright brilliant—just text a photo, and Rid does all the heavy lifting? From researching your item to finding buyers and even arranging the pickup, it streamlines every frustrating step. Especially great for busy folks who have things to sell but never get around to listing them. Loving the YC backing, too!

Irsa Doham

Loved how co-founder Veniamin put it: ‘Selling your stuff sucks… Rid makes it so simple we no longer have an excuse.’ Amen to that 😂 Curious—what commission range should we expect? And how does messaging/shipping work once a match is found? Loving the smooth UX so far!

William Jin

I always put off selling unused stuff—this removes all friction. How do you ensure fair pricing and avoid lowball offers?
