@covercash Hi Chris, thanks for the note. Good question. Pillo is a diverse project. The idea itself was conceptualized by Italians, the device was designed and engineered by Italians and Americans, our co-founders are American, Italian, and South African. So I'd be amiss to say that there is only one way to pronounce "Pillo". The original version is pronounced by Emanuele (center cofounder in the last scene) but ultimately I think all of the actors and the voiceover did a great job and we encourage you to use any of the above pronunciations as you share Pillo with your network. Thanks!
This is very interesting, but am I the only one questioning if the bot is able to communicate with humans as naturally as it's shown in the video?
Building a bot able to understand human language and (and recognize a baby?) is a tough job by itself.
**What's the thoughts of the Product Hunt's community on this?**
I'm just being curious here :) Congrats for the product!
@danflopes in my recent experience with developing bots I would say that the video is mainly for show and represents a future vision the company has. The interfaces used with bot platforms (think Alexa, OK Google, Siri, etc.) usually rely on APIs/ web services to do things like facial recognition and information retrieval and lookup, which usually are subject to network latency that slows down the natural "back and forth" portrayed in the video.
Regardless, it's a great look at the potential of AI and bots.
@danflopes thanks for the comment! As Jay mentions, the video represents both current functionality as well as our future vision for Pillo. Our natural language processing, facial recognition, and TTS capabilities are being leveraged from top technology companies where necessary, and developed in-house where appropriate. They will only get better with time. We have some amazing engineers on the team (you can meet a few in the team section of our Indiegogo campaign page https://igg.me/at/pillohealth) and we look forward to showing you what Pillo can do very soon! Thanks again - we love curiosity! :)
@endac Pillo's platform is one of his core assets. We'll be building exciting new healthcare applications (in addition to his current features) like nutrition dashboards, stress management tools and other applications in the near future. External developers and partners will also be able to build and port their applications on to the platform.
Product looks amazing!
Obviously you don't focus on how to set up the robot for its multiple uses since it would neither be interesting nor marketable.
However I've been wondering: Do you think that the Company will be able to focus on all customers (those who need medication, those who need vitamins etc.), and all features (app that sends a notification to the family, app for connected watch, facial recognition, voice recognition, design etc.)? Do you have priorities?
@julien_vicente Thank you! You're right, there is a lot to think about in terms of priorities. I'd say that from the outset we are building a device that has broad applicability for people that are healthy or sick. We will then prioritize specific features as part of our product development roadmap (you can check out our "future features" section on our indiegogo page for more info https://igg.me/at/pillohealth). In terms of the technologies, we have already built and / or licensed the majority of the functionalities that you refer to. Hope that helps.
Pillo helps in a lot of aspects in terms of health. It caught my attention when it comes of daily reminder of taking medications each throughout the day. I found this to be interesting and its worth checking it out.
The product sounds cool, but the robot looks a bit creepy. =D
I would never put that thing in my bedroom =D
Why don't you take both of its eyes to the center?
It looks like the robot has squint.
I am talking about this picture:

PS: Jokes apart, the project sounds awesome :)
This looks cool but I don't understand how the founders did better speech recognition and TTS than Amazon or Google. I suspect the videos are over promising substantially on what the Pilo can actually do.
@arlogilbert Thanks for the comment - our designers worked hard to come up with the product that you see today. With regards to the functions that you see in the video (speech rec, TTS etc.) - they're not better than those of Amazon or Google, they're essentially the same. We're leveraging a lot of our tech from large technology companies, one of which you mentioned in your comment. Thanks again.
