What would you say if I told you there is an app on the market that tell you if you have a hotdog or not a hotdog. It is very good and I don't want to work on it any more. You can hire someone else.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of joining a screening for the first few episodes of HBO’s Silicon Valley (proof!). After the viewing, one of the producers pulled me aside to share a top secret project they’ve been working on called, Not Hotdog, a game-changing hotdog recognition app which was just revealed in the latest episode of the show. Jokes aside, it's awesome they actually built this. 😂

Total crap! The app told me I had a hot dog, but it turned out to be a hamburger. I don't want to live in a world where Not Hotdog is hotdogging non-hotdogs.

In case anyone is wondering, Tim Anglade is the developer behind the amazing app, a fast.ai's "Practical Deep Learning for Coders" course student. http://forums.fast.ai/t/hello-in... The app was actually written in React Native and embedded TensorFlow on device. The backend is a custom neural net inspired by MobileNets paper. While this app may not be the most #disruptive app on my iPhone, I love that the HBO team took the effort to actually build the app depicted in the show. And it works.

Not Hotdog may not be homescreen-worthy but it's a fun joke that illustrates the increasing influence of tech on culture and the media industry (and visa versa).

Pros:

Works as advertised!

Cons:

Only supports hot dogs
