I find this really interesting, as there are very many meditation apps out there but not as many hypnosis. What differences do you find in guided mediation vs hypnosis?
@kleo Yeah if you look at the google search trends, hypnosis and meditation were similarly searched until 2010 when all the app started coming out and meditation took off!
Meditation has some similarities with hypnosis, such as entering a relaxed state, but where hypnosis differs is in its ability to target a specific goal through suggestions. Meditation is generally more focused on mindfulness of your own thoughts, while hypnosis aims to actually provide suggestions for your subconscious mind to latch on to.
Both hypnosis and meditation can be very beneficial but we've found that hypnosis is better when you want to improve specific areas of how you think, feel or act. Thanks for the comment Johnny!
Hi guys! I’m one of the Co-Founders of Mindset. I’m super excited to share what we’ve been working on and get your feedback. Mindset’s goal is to help people improve how they feel, think and act. We’ve built an app that uses hypnosis to help retrain the thought patterns and perceptions holding you back.
My brother Chris and I are fascinated by psychology, self-improvement and health. When we came across hypnosis we were initially curious, but pretty skeptical, as we thought it was just magicians making people cluck like a chicken. But once we tried it, we realised the massive potential it had for self-care, as well as how much it was limited by the stigma that surrounds it. So we decided to make an app that could help destigmatize hypnosis while helping ourselves and others to feel better and happier. Apps like Headspace, Calm and Oak have been able to bring meditation to the mainstream and we want to help do that for hypnosis.
As we’re self-taught developers we really appreciate any feedback you have regarding its design or performance and are keen to know what topics/features you would like us to add going forward.

@thecoppinger Hypnosis is effectively a relaxed, hyper-focused state where you are more suggestible. Mindset helps you get into this state and then provides suggestions on your attitudes, behaviour and perceptions that influence your behaviour and habits.

@androidlove Don't worry it isn't mind control; for hypnosis to work, you have to really want the change to happen or your mind won't accept the suggestions.
@swetzequity Thanks Zach! I would say that Oak is a meditation app and it's more about relaxation and anxiety while we focus more on personal development. Brain.Fm is really cool but its more about in the moment improvements, such as listening to specialised music to work better in the moment, while Mindset mainly works better over the long term (other than our sleep sessions).
Tried it for a laugh because I was quite sceptical but you can see there's a lot of work that's gone into this. I remember when I first started meditating and I had to commit to it over a long period to see results. I feel this is similar so I'll report back in a week or two. Congrats on the launch!

So I have been using the app. What I can’t tell is whether I am falling asleep or being hypnotized? The voice is incredibly soothing so I quickly go under when I am tired. How do I know if it is working???
